If you're looking for a 750 KQ, you can have this one that came with mine for shipping and packaging...

No full blown resto on this one, Kev.  The old controls were toast and had butchered wiring and the grips and footrests weren't worth salvaging.  Still plenty of patina!

It was a fairly good weekend for The Patina Bike....I think my post lady hates me [she has to walk all the way down the driveway, then up the stairs to drop the packages off by my front door]





Got the new clutch cable on, L cover all buttoned up and cable adjusted, clutch feels good. New foot rest rubber on too.
Look at all that nice Patina. Really doesnt look that bad, must be an adjustment on the camera....ha!




Got the new L control on and connected up, Gran Turismo grip on...





New R Control on and connected, bike came with like new throttle cables so those are being reused, new grip....




New ignition switch, new plugs and plug caps....





Good news/bad news........

Good:  starter, blinkers, horn, brake and idiot lights all work. 

Bad:    no friggin spark!

More on this tomorrow........

I like it!once its all sorted and running just before the safety inspection spray that fake spider web stuff on the engine etc and say ive just rolled it out of a barn!maybe even stash a real huntsman on it?

Good idea Dave!   But since it's over 25 years old, I can register it as an antique and don't need an inspection.

Ok, as reported yesterday, no friggin spark.  I'm a little baffled, plz help me diagnose this.

New, fully charged battery, 12.55 volts, good.   Voltage at the blue wire @ points is 11.17, ok.



Voltage at the yellow wire @ points is .017, bad. These checks are with a card in the points, BTW.



Voltage at the yellow wire connection near the battery is 11.76.



The yellow wire from that connection to the points ohm out, WTF? How could I be losing voltage??
What do you make of this???

I have points/condensers on order, but doubt that is my issue.

Did you check the connections at the coils? And test the coils?

The black w/wite runner wire has 11.73V at the coil. Coils test at 5 ohm...

try cleaning all the connections in the head light birds nest and make sure some po hasn't mismatched any of the colours,also the gang connectors in the white plastic housings near the electrical plate,check the plug caps resistance aswell.
 the old plate etc has its own patina?ill bet it has a trickle corrosion short amoungst it down there?dissemble and rebuild that aswell,the one place you don't want patina?

Correct, no spark at plug #1 or 2. 


try cleaning all the connections in the head light birds nest and make sure some po hasn't mismatched any of the colours,also the gang connectors in the white plastic housings near the electrical plate,check the plug caps resistance aswell.

I'll recheck all connections, the wiring is in really good shape, no hacking at all ( and new controls and ignition switch). 

Just got home and new points/condensers did not arrive. 


What else can I check?    Thanks.

Haven't check them as I haven't installed the new caps yet.  But switched the blue and yellow wires at the coil and made no difference. 

I know there is a simple solution but diagnosing it is the difficult part.

Ordered points and condensers, how could the plate prevent spark? It's not badly rusted.

Points plate is $60, just points/condensers is half that.  I got no buggered screws but points screws were loose, so PO was in there for some reason?
