What's all this talk about unoriginality on the build shows....why just tonight I watched OCC weld a pitch fork to the rear fender and cutting shears to the frame :o

I pretty much agree you Mr. Cheapo. Especially the part about how these builders are really assemblers. For the most part I think that HD's are noise polluters. I got a chance to ride a big ass Fat Boy this past weekend for the first time and it was exactly as I expected it to be. Big, loud and heavy. Back to the topic of builders, did anyone catch Biker Build-off last night? The Walz Hardcore Mille Miglia is big(over 10 feet long), loud, probably heavy, but I WANT IT. And yes it does have a huuuugee rear wheel. I pretty much hate most custom builders like OCC, but the Walz bike just did it for me. Maybe it was the flat black paint and lack of chrome. Anyways, flame on.

I gotta chime in. I'm so NOT a chopper guy. I can't stand the obnoxiously loud, obnoxiously priced, obnoxiously poor handling, trailered turds. But I caught about 5 minutes of Biker Build Off last night. As soon as I saw this Walz bike last night, I thought to myself, now THERE'S a custom bike I like.

So you're not alone kuyarico.

A show where the 'builders' are all given a sohc engine and told to do something original with it would be interesting.

so is that exaust kicking out directly onto your right thigh?

It's more like a Right Ass Cheek warmer.

I thought the same thing, but it didn't seem to bother him. He drove it a thousand miles to NV for the bike show.

He could probably afford the fancy asbestos undergarments!

Speaking of choppers ... ;D This was 'Black Bart" and one of my favorites built by the late Tony Carlini back in the '70's. Anybody else remember the bike?

A side comment on Mr. Cash.  When I was a kid-around 6 years old-my favorite album was Live at Folsom Prison.  I was listening to it yesterday while I was driving for 6 hours round-trip for a 45 minute meeting.  What the hell were my parents thinking letting me listen to that?  I think 5 songs were about hangings.  My son is coming up on 6 years old now-there is no way I'd let him listen to this stuff at his age.  I was also 6 years old when I got my first minibike.  That ain't happening again either.

The Black Bart bike, now that is nice. I would be proud to ride it. One of the major reasons is that it is cool and not like the other guys bikes.

Funny since I changed my avatar, it has turned several threads into Johnny Cash threads  ::)

Thanks Jeff.

You know, because of this thread, I decided to check out Walz website and look at his bikes. Doing that makes me need to back track a bit. I do like his more than most run of the mill chopper. The back tire section is sweet. I think most of them are too long though. I just don't like the ridiculous rake of most of the custom high dollar bikes.

I would say my favorite famous builders are:

Jesse Rooke

Note this bike uses a KTM motor.

Roland Sands

Salinas Boys

I wouldn't, if they still created a poor handling POS that looks just like everyone else's overpriced POS.

No.....

I am looking for something different...... Sands and Rooke are about the closest so far. But do keep in mind that these guys also have serious liniage in racing.

Just sick and tired of the piss poor design of the v twin. What the hell good is a motor that can only be balanced within 60% efficiency?

You know about the new Harley engines though, right? I can't speak for how good they are, but they did completely redesign them with 90ci and twin cams.

I agree about the ridiculous rake on those things. Must be a #$%* to ride. I have to reiterate, I really hate the loud, big ass overpriced customs spawned from the builder shows, but for some reason, i liked the walz bike. It could have been beer goggles. It happens with women too. That would explain why i liked the huge rear wheel. ElCheapo, for some one that really seems to hate these shows, you seem to catch a lot of them. Is it like watching a train wreck for you? I personally find it amusing watching some of these monkeys bicker while assembling the same bikes week after week. But if it angers you that much, or enough that you would start a thread about it, then stop watching. Our little corner of the bike world can appreciate the job you did on your sweet ride, but the rest of the world are victims of the mass media. Long live SOHC4!

Ohhh normally I find them entertaining and interesting. And normally I like the Walz Hardcore bikes. Nice styling, but the v twin #$%* is so over done it not even funny. As well as the ridiculous rake trail and stretch on these bikes. You need 4 ft long arms just to ride the damn things. No matter how cool they look, they are worthless if they can not be ridden.

We can malign HD for their lack of forward progress when it comes to techie stuff, but the reality is that they push all the right buttons when it comes to the 2 wheeled life syle. And good on them for keeping 2 wheels at the forefront of peoples discretionary disposable income spending choices
