Dave, how did you find the Hagon shocks when riding 2up. I need to order some shocks soon and also plan some 2up riding.

Felt good. I went with the next available stiffer rate spring than stock recommendation, as we planned on riding together a bit.

Tim, go with the Ikons{Koni's} mate, they are a better shock and are made locally, not knocking the Hagons they are fine, and better than stock shocks for sure, but the Ikons are a step up again, made in Australia and are rebuildable. I've used Ikons/Koni's on these old bikes {and others} since the late 70's and they are good, I've also done 1000+ Kilometer days 2 up several times. I still have some Ikons {30 year old and still good}, that i'll be using, in my garage... ;)

Dave, that bike looks excellent, love the color... ;)

Well, the leak came back. New gaskets on order. If you are undecided on installing a frame kit do it! As soon as gaskets get here, it should be about a hour job.

What do you plan to use to seal it this time?

Im still undecided as to aviation permatex or copper spray. The copper spray is spendy and I already have the permatex on hand.

I'm going to use Hondabond 4, since I have a whole tube of it.

Dave,

I was chatting with Mark about this and he suggested that the thickness of the o-rings is generally the culprit here. Before installing the new gaskets, check to make sure the o-rings are thicker/taller than the gasket. I'll dig up the exact numbers if I can. I have two vesrah kits collecting dust right now, as I've decided to go with MLS head and base gaskets after talking to a few people.

I remember reading that. Thanks! I will check for sure. Let me know I you get the numbers. I believe it was between 2.5 or 3mm thick?

Here you go

Quote from: PM Excerpt
................. Set the gasket in place and measure the depth, or the height of the O-rings above the gasket, to make sure they are taller than the gasket and hole combined. They should be between 0.14 and 0.20mm thicker than the gasket top...............

Do you think I should put coating on the gasket itself, or the surfaces? I also have a can of copper spray? should I use that instead of hondabond? This is the LAST time I want to do this haha.

Hondabond sets up too fast in my opinion. Seems like coating the whole thing would be better...

What kind of gasket? MLS won't need any coating if the o-ring thickness is correct...

Head gasket MLS, going on dry. Base gasket is Viton/steel.

Spray might be easiest unless you want to put in the work to get threebond/permatex#2 on it evenly. I know Flybox1 used copper spray thing on his base gasket and was leak free, he might have better tips.

I am leaning toward spray and correct o-rings, as I already have it, used it on my last base gasket without leaks.

Looked in my harbor freight O ring set and found the right size ring and measured it against the ones that came in the vesrah kit.  Vesrah rings measure 2.35mm and the HF rings measured 2.45.

Are there any issues with using them from a heat standpoint? Seems they'd be the better choice from the thickness standpoint.

Heat would not be an issue. As far as the thickness goes, seems like it will be based on base gasket thickness. I'm going to measure mine as stared in reply #354 in this page

I measure about .69mm that the HF one sticks up above the channel when installed. The base gasket from my kit measures .47mm so roughly .20mm. That is a huge difference since the Vesrah kits o rings would have been half that height.

Would go with the HF one then
