WHY???!?!!!!!!!!
« on: September 19, 2014, 08:04:49 AM »
WHY THE F DID THEY ROUTE THE BREATHER HOSES TO VENT ONTO THE REAR TIRE AND WHY THE HELL DO I NEVER LEARN MY LESSON ABOUT OVERFILLING THE DAMN OIL TANK??!!??!!??!!??!!

Getting frickin sideways on the way to work is one way to make sure you're WIDE awake. No coffee for me today.

Anyone want to help me clean my bike? It should take only about 4 flippin days.

Ugh.

-----------------------------

Anyone got a good solution about rerouting the breather hoses so they don't lube up the rear wheel?
I guess you could extend them all the way back along the swingarm...
Maybe add a couple of feet of rigid tubing so as to extend the thing out past the tire  ::)

Mine is shorter, so it ends up near the oil tank. No dripping from there. Doesn't even point downwards!

This happens more now than before 2002, when the EPA mandated the end of zinc in our motor oils. W/o it, the foaming is a big problem (among other issues), and that is why now, after 30+ years of running 4 qts. in my tank, now I can only run 3.7 qts. or it soaks the bike.  >:(

Use low-detergent oils, at least. I have re-routed my breather tube to the chain side, where it now tends to oil the chain, if I forget.   ;)
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The demons are repulsed when a man does good. Use that.
Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

Breather hose from valve cover drips oil on rear wheel, really?
Never happened to me. Different hoses/ routing depending on model?
I have seen some condense, mostly water. Foaming oil back in the days visible inside oil tank only. I doubt that my synthetic oil will foam. I have aimed my new thick heat resistant oil/water 1/2" hose out from the wheel

You can prolly get some help with cleaning the bike, but you'll have to clean the seat yourself! ;D
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Get a late model airbox, problem solved.

Also, I have never noticed this on my bike...

Finally clean.
I swear I'm gonna mount a 4ft piece of conduit to the bottom of the swing arm & connect the hoses to it. Then if it leaks the oil will run out about 1ft behind the bike.

how so?

The vent tubes are routed in to the airbox, no longer to the atmosphere so you don't get oil anywhere. Just like PCV setup on a car

Did I miss something?..............on Pre-'77 models the vent tube from the valve cover may put a very small amount of oil into the hose...........but the vent tube from the oil tank should be connected to the back of the tranny.................if not................both of those open sources WILL spew oil all over your rear tire ???

You missed the part where he said he overfilled the oil, it wasn't a 'normal' thing
