Hi scottly,

Here are photos of my front tank mount:

As you can see fairly conventional rubber bungs which slide into recesses on the tank.

My frame has no provisions for mounting the rubbers, and my tank doesn't have the recesses they would slide into. Maybe after Colin started assembling complete bikes he changed some things?

I started working on the rod for the rear tie-down, but I have very little clearance for one under the rear of the tank, so I'm pursuing my original plan to fabricate alloy "hooks" from thin strips, that curve under the frame tubes, with a piece of the bungee attached. The hooks will be between the outside edge of the seat pan and the frame, and will be positively anchored by the front seat mounting screws. I'll post pics when I have something to show, if anyone's interested.

Hello scottly,

I was just looking at some google photos of Seeley bare frames. There appears to be a small dia. tube fixed to the frame on the top tube just behind the headstock. From this I assume a threaded stud pushes through which in turn screw's into the tank rubbers. I could not find a detail photo the tank showing the welded on recesses though but I assume they must have been std. I'll do some disassembling and take some photo's if it is of any help. Sounds as if you have a way ahead for your situation though.

I suspect that many frames might have been altered by their original builders to suit their preferred fixing method, only guessing there though.

On mine, it's just a tube fixed across the frame, no threads, the rubbers (which are standard 750 but cut down a bit narrower) just push over it. The tank doesn't have actual recesses, just curved pieces of alloy welded in the appropriate place, kind of like tiny fenders

How about the rear of your tank, Tim? Does your bike also have the rod mounted across the top of the battery tray, with the rubber loop? At this point, I'm just curious...

I keep the rubbers in place with a very long cable tie (zip tie) through that little tube, over the rubbers and connecting under that little tube.

There is no dedicated fuel tank mounting point for the rear of the fuel tank. I made two bung-holders which I attached to the front seat mounting tubes with short screws from the 'inside' of the frame, if you know what I mean. That front seat mounting threaded tube then still has plenty of thread to hold the seat mounting screws which screw in from the outside of the frame.

For the rubber bung I used a piece of shock-cord. This is very strong and stretchy rubber cord used by the sailing/yachting crowd to keep ropes in their place.

No tube nor fenders on my bike..

My new rear hold down strap. I also have been making some new cushions between the underside of the tank and the frame, to replace the foam pipe insulation and chunks of inner tube that I fitted last go-a-round.

The cushion at the front is OK, but the ones at the rear need some revising.

A neat solution for your rear tank strap. Your tank seems to be a bit different wrt it's mounting requirements and also the frame with that front mount tube not being there. I wonder if your frame might have been a special order for racing. Have you ever contacted Colin to see what his records say ?

Are these seats something that is still made? Always loves the Seeley bodywork but no one makes it.

I'm not aware of nyone making Seeley bodywork commercially.

I'm not near my bike or my spare seat and I won't be for another couple of months but it should not be too difficult for someone to pull a mould and make a replica.

Hey Geoff, I'm wondering now if the front tank mounts were added later to satisfy the German requirements? Perhaps they wanted something more positive than a rubber band to secure the tank.

Does anyone know exactly what mods were required to meet the German spec?

Hi scottly,

My chassis is a German spec. one (SH7-GER-672F). I have assumed that the front tank mounts which slip over the Honda mount rubbers were Seeley std. Saying that the genuine Seeley tank I have on my T500 race bike only uses a rubber to hold down the front of the tank so maybe UK spec. Seeley 750s are the same.

One of the differences between the UK and German spec. chassis had something to do with the steering lock I believe. Whether that was for more or less lock I have no idea though.

Thanks Thomas. Since there was a dent in the top front of the tank, I decided to paint only the front part, inspired somewhat by the BSA 441 Victor. I thought it would also make the tank look less massive? In any case I'm happy with it for the time being, as the weather is improving and it's time for riding instead of wrenching.

Hey there,
as Scottly suggested, I post what is the known history of my Seeley frame #SH-7 GER 573:
Nothing.
The frame was offered without papers by a salvage guy in 2002 on Ebay. He even sold the swing arm in a separate auction and I had lots of trouble to find the buyer of that. In the end, frame and swing arm were mine. That's it

As my bike was one of the first in Axls registry (met him personally before he died) and as I hold the website seeley-honda.com I was hoping that a former owner would get in contact, but that didn't happen till today.

I found that website many years ago, when I first accessed the internet; it told me more about my bike than the previous/original owner.

I had thought it was Axl's site? The memorial board on this forum was created following his passing.

BTW I'm building the bike as an endurance racer. Here's the fairing I'm using that I was asking about mounts for, I don't think it was ever mounted.
