Fuel "leaking"
« on: October 06, 2006, 04:39:20 PM »
Alright, came back from a mid-length ride and noticed that there was some "gassy smelling" vapor coming out of a drain tube on right side of frame at the buttom below my right foot.  I'm assuming that is some sort of overflow tube.  Anyone know why I got the vapors?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll add to the mix that the idle is all over the place (sometimes 11k sometimes 18k sometimes 25k) and it doesn't seem to be consistant with any other variable I can point towards...

If it is idling at 11k or 25k - book it in to the Guinness Book of World Records

the "k" denotes thousands

but your problem sounds typical of the stuck float valve - that is not shutting off when the carb is full, then dumpng out the overflow tube/s....

see if you can locate which tube it is coming from when the bike is running and on the centrestand- then you can have a good look to determine where the problem may be... if on one carb only - try tapping gently the float bowl with the plastic head of a screwcriver - this might help just shake the valve a bit... :)

Try running some Seafoam gasoline additive through the system first.  Try adding some to the tank first, then directly into the carbs second.

Best off finding out where the problem is before you go treating something which may not fix or even be your problem... not arguing with seafoam treatment but do the extra yard and find out the cause of your problem.... then you know what it will take to fix it.... :)

yea, I know... I just want to ride it without incident til the weather changes for good.  I won't have long to wait as October starts getting chilly and wet.  I'm not so bothered by the cold as I am the water.  Slippery roads and slippery wet leaves scare the hell outta me.

Each company pays a yearly link fee...there are hundreds............Many of these companies do  1-25 mil a year from their links.

Here's a site I bought this past summer, but I haven't had any time to get it beyond a runner just yet.
