Pictures of my new project bike
« on: April 06, 2015, 10:50:19 PM »
I just picked up this nice but rough 1971 CB750K.  It looks complete except for the hand controls and a few odds and ends.  The nicest part that I noticed was the tank.  NO rust on the inside!  The gaiter on the forks were also in great shape. the only thing that i'm concerned with is the wiring harness.  The 40+ old wires look brittle.  I was wondering if it would be possible to use a wiring harness from a 1978 CB750F.  I have an entire wiring harness that I took off a project bike and it looks all there.

thanks

Arnold,

Congrats on the new project.  Maybe you can move this thread over to the Project forum?

The harness can be used, you just need to sort out few extras.  78F had the starter wired through clutch switch and neutral switch - for 71 you can remove that whole nonsense.  The harness ground for 78F is at ignition coils while early Ks had it at seat lock.  Also late bikes used front turn signals for running lights and have Left and Right turn signal indicator.

In my project I have the 78 harness and engine in K3 frame;  I removed all the wrapping from the harness and sorted it out wire by wire and adopted it to my needs - like removing the safety starter module.  Not hard to do and worth it, IMHO.  The running lights I removed from the turn signal switch since it was not needed and wired turn signal indicator to the early K dash I am using.

Does the speedo and tach have the indicator lights in them, see they are mounted on the wrong sides. Fork ears are from a later bike but no big deal unless your doing a stock restore.  Have fun on the project.

Thanks guys for the info.  I haven't started a project build thread yet but will soon and will move it to the project section.  Just wanted to get some quick info on the wiring harness issue.

She's a little rough around the edges but that's how I like my women "Beautiful and rough around the edges".  I hope to get the carbs out and clean them out, squirt the pistons with a little oil, and sort out the electricity.  Then we'll see if she sparks!
