Head work — Long Beach
« on: May 13, 2015, 09:55:50 AM »
So last rebuild I really didn't touch the head at all.

Anybody know someone in the LA/OC area that has experience porting and lapping cb750 heads?

I saw this http://cbrzone.com/sohc.html But my bike is not going to be a race machine. I just want this to be the last time I ever take the engine out (finger's crossed).

I want it to be clean and dependable.

Any leads appreciated

thanks

also — prices, How much should I expect to pay?

I live in Long beach.

Maybe give Carpy a call to see who he uses. He probably has a list of buddies who do decent work.

We can do that work for you.  We do standard valve jobs also.   If you head needs anything we have it in stock.

Quality parts as APE has is worth the little extra compared with cheaper alternatives you can find on ebay.
CB750? Ported head wake the engine. I should check valves and guides at the same time. Old engine might need new valves plus stiffer springs for a hotter cam. Cylinder job too, 836... New clutch? Std clutch plates with stiffer springs for street use and more hp

Engine kit here http://cbrzone.com/sohc.html

MRieck on this forum is a master of head porting.

The most waste of money I have done is to not install all needed parts of correct quality. But I am married with my bike that I have spent some $$$$ on since 1979 when I bought it.

Chris,

For near local, I would recommend APE (you have the link).  They are up next to Willow Springs.

I can see why you'd want to go local rather than ship.  In addition to APE, Mike Rieck and Cycle X can also do the work.  Mike is The Shaolin Master of Porting.

I'd have to imagine that there's someone in our backyard in LB, but I don't know who.
