What was that yellow paint for?
« on: June 19, 2015, 11:40:06 PM »
When our bikes left the factory several bolts had a bit of yellow paint on them.
Was that for guarantee reasons so that a Honda dealer could detect rightaway if a customer had wrenched where he shouldn't have been or was it an indication that that part was OK'd when assembled?
Anyway on the French site http://www.cb500four.com/fofo_cb500four/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=137  Aurelia askes to send photos of other 'yellow points' than he already shows.

i seem to remember that they were marks for the bolts having been checked for correct torque.
don't have a reference for this, though...

I thought it was a marker to see if someone had moved the bolt, taking the bike apart.
Mark checked bolt feels like good quality thinking.
EDIT: Quick Googling support the torque check on factory line so the workers know....

Yes, that mark is from the factory, indicates they have been torque.

It's still done at the factory I work at now.
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

Don't listen to the above comments.
They are all false.
True story  is that Jackson Pollock did an "artist in residence" stint at Honda back in the day and could not find any inspiration for the life of him. Best he could come up with was dabbing bits of new bikes with yellow paint to confuse future owners.
It's true!
Look closely at some of those yellow dots, some of them are in fact signed by the artist himself making the dot worth millions.
Much more than the bike itself, which is probably worth a couple of grand ...max.
Maybe you own one of these signed masterpieces?

It truely would be a masterpiece to see one of these bikes with not one of the yellow dots even cracked!

I always assumed it was so dealers could void warranty claims if any of the bolts had been cracked open - I am pleased to learn it was a sensible quality control/safety thing! :)
