Well, it's time for paint on my 1976 CB750K build...

I'm thinking of Candy Gold. Does anyone know of a modern paint code that's equivalent?

A few pics of the powdercoated frame, new rims and spokes...

I found a local young fellow who polished all the engine bits and did a great job, check out those hubs! I had the front forks on before I found him, I may give him those too.

Thanks for posting!  Looks like my supplier of choice now has candy gold concentrate and kits.

$138 for a kit.  This for 1 quart reduced which should yeild 1/2 gallon.

This must be a new addition.  The color looks correct.  I had an original in my hand, and it is true gold not orange without flake like many of the photos show.

It was stored in the dark for 40 years so I know it really is gold.

I found a good one for a candy gold off an old jeep.
Was called Inca gold pearl.  Seen it up close next to an early candy gold cb350 (mine ) and it was an incredibly close match.

It was an old renegade with the bird on the hood but I think the newer Rubicons look close too.

Any other colours, ("colors" for you US folks, us Canucks like to add a "u" to many words) that I should consider?

I donno if the original poster has figured this out yet but I don't think there is anyone that can and will ship paint kits across the US Canada border. When i was painting mine last year I couldn't get any kits out of the states.

I'm leaning towards the Candy Gold, but I'm open to suggestions.

Ask someone here,who has a candy gold bike,to take it or a piece of it to an automotive paint store and ask to have it scanned,they will give you the paint number that the scanner picks up,then you can have your local store mix it

The candy colors or flake paints are not convenient mix it in one can then throw in your reducer and hardner and spray.
You do understand that don't you?

Take for example the sunrise orange flake color.
starts with a silver base coat
Then a coat of flake and clear
Multiple layers of the orange candy color mixed in the clear to the proper ratio of candy color to clear. The more coats of candy the darker the color begins.
Then when the color is right it gets the several coats of clear

How much candy is enough is something experience provides...
That is why matching a candy later for side covers or the like takes a lot of skill.
Everything is painted at the same time because it is an involved paint job.

The candy gold is similar, just no flake.
Typical candy is a transparent paint with the color mixed in...
That's what gives it depth of color and properly done is gorgeous.

The jeep color just will not have any depth in comparison.

In defense of finding a modern base coat / clear coat that is close to an original candy job I really wanted to do the body work for my K6 Cafe in metallic sunrise orange, but had a hard time finding a shop that would lay down candy and the one place I found that would, quoted me a price of $1000 for all body work.  My work around was Mopar Toxic orange (2011).  It is not spot on but it is close enough for me.  All that being said, I am tempted to try that Rubicon color on a future build.  As for the cost, the base coat, clear coat Toxic orange job with materials came in at less than half the cost than the candy job.

Using and auto code is how how got a very close match for varnish blue.  As for scanners it is a crap shoot IMO.  Being able to see the final product is key to getting a good result.  It sucks you can't order the paint and have it shipped that would be the easiest.

It is a pretty straight forward paint job candy gold over silver base.  Find a darker gold would probably be better as you have a variety of shades from light to dark in between.

That is how I do it with the sun flake orange. I use tangerine concentrate.  This time around going with premix tangerine candy paint.  I got this paint job done to a science.

Yunno Don, I really like the Candy blue/green too. Would you be able to find the formula?

These original colors will change with changing light sources and over time with exposure to sunlight giving the bike attractive highlights and 'patina'.

+1 here.  That is exactly what I was thinking.  Deeper and richer.  A good candy imo should have light and shadows.

That candy gold looks like it has a gold base and not silver.  Don't think anyone sells an original kit as the candy gold over silver base is kinda plain.

I know I had a NOS original in my hands.  Nice buy very gold.  Everyone seem to like warmer look.
