old fiat test track in turin

i'm at the moment at fiat in turin for work. they have an old factory building which has been converted into a shopping mall. on top of it they had a test track. every car built in the factory underneath was driven up and around the track before delivery.

today i had a chance of going up there and have a walk around. no idea if this is of interest to anyone, might be a bit geeky but i found it very cool. thought some of you might enjoy the pictures:

Great shots...thanks for sharing!  Must have made you a little sad that you couldn't run the track on your bike. I know I would have been. :(

yes the big rubbery scene  hvere they escape in morris minie"s over the roof..and through them aut over the mountain after..and take the bus home....great film

that was my sentiment exactly but it's kinda hard to justify a work trip down here on the bike. and the track is not open to the public, and there were renovation works going on... but yes it would have been awesome to be able to run at least some kind of vehicle around this historic piece of asphalt.

Pretty amazing that the track is just sitting there on top of a shopping mall.  I wonder how fast they cars could run using that banked oval.

A test track on top of a roof blows me away too. Just goes to show how resourceful one needs to be when real estate is scarce.

no idea how fast they could go but the angle is so steep that you get slightly worried walking it. i'm sure they could go at a good pace!

the whole factory was a masterpiece of efficient, built-for-purpose architecture when it was designed in 1916. one big machine where materials and workers enter at the bottom and finished cars leave over the roof. apparently, le corbusier was fascinated and slightly jealous.
