Matt, sorry dude. Just had 'em lying around. I'll never do that to you again.
It was an honest mistake, Gene, so don't feel bad. I didn't find out what the symbol was until after I got home, luckily in time to give Matt a heads-up so he was prepared. I was surprised it failed that quickly.

Honestly I am too. I knew it was Daichi, but at least made in Japan. I've swapped them on other bikes and not had an issue. Again, sorry to Matt. Maybe the other one was good? :-[

I didn't get any riding in during the Reunion, only wrenchin' and drankin', oh, and a little BS'in'. I made up for it a little today. I rode 150 miles to work for 4.5 hours then another 150 miles home on the BMW.

Checked into Dolores riverside campground this afternoon at 2pm for 2 days. I was thinking everyone would be staying for the night of the 17th. Nearly burst into tears when the lady at the office told me all the Honda guys checked out this morning. What a DUNDERHEAD am I. Was so looking forward to meeting you blokes.
Guess things could be worse. It is a nice place to be, especially after the Yellowstone National Parking Lot which was a bitter dissappointment.
Anyway might just get plastered. Hope the reunion was a hoot.

Had a fun day...Rose got what appeared to be the start of Heat Exhaustion in the middle of a long dash to try and get to Paducah. Almost passed out ridding pillion I think the heat index was up near 106.  We were stopping and drinking lots of water but apparently not enough.

Decided to take advantage of a nearby uhaul in the middle of Missouri and lugged the Guzzi a few hundred miles to final destination.

Luckily we're here meeting some friends for the eclipse and aren't leaving till Tuesday.

There was some wedding Frank was talking about dodging...  gotta stay gone well past that...  guess it depends on how long you can safely take off work.

Even this area we are in isseeing much higher hotel occupancy anud we are only in the 94% totality percentage for the eclipse.  News had reported Carbondale IL had hotels sold out for 200 miles around as it is supposed to have the longest level of eclipse of over 2 minutes if I recall the news report.

No, it will overflow running at a stop light and it will overflow when the engine is off and the tap is also off. It's bugging the deal out of me. Sometimes it's like it is being starved, other times the fuel smell is strong.

This is often caused by a dimple on the float tang:I've used the fingernail file in my Swiss Army Knife once to fix it in the road. :)

It does have the dimple. I spent several hours ar Lloyd's (TwoTired) tonight. The dimple is so deep we couldn't get rid of it even with a fine grinding wheel and variable speed rotary tool. We were able to make it shallower and Lloyd reset the float for me. We also replaced the O-ring for the needle seat. The #1 plug was very spooty so we cleaned and gapped it. I pulled the other 3 and they looked fine, I gapped them and reinstalled.

Lloyd kindly provided me a full points setup as a loaner until I get home, but for now I am going to continue to run the EI with the cover off and hold the points as a backup.

I also pursueded him to part, for an eminently fair price, with a stock F seat to replace the smaller aftermarket I installed last week.

I also saw his amazing RC airplane collection and wood shop and his vintage 30's Chevy coupe hotrod he bought way back in 1969.

All in all it was a great day and a real treat to meet Lloyd and his wife.

They offered to put me up for the night, but I wanted to put some more miles on to shorten tomorrow's ride to Alpine and the Coronado Trail Scenic Byway.

Joe,

Take my word, the people in Paducah can be a little wacko and we like to drink moonshine  ;)

Joe, Hope Rose recovers quick.  Getting your core temp down sometimes is hard in very hot weather.  A wet towel inside the helmet can help.  I forget were I saw a sleeve vent of a crushproof, unbreakable vent you put in the end of your jacket sleeve and velcro it tight to your wrist.  It has a half circle tube with 3 sections that funnel the air coming past your wrists into the jacket.  I might buy a pair to see if they help next summer.

My oldest, and still most useful, tip for this one is: I usually ride in a T-shirt (or more) and full leather jacket, often the pants, too, if it is really hot. When the heat index gets past 90-94 range, I'll wet the shirt (sometimes pants, too) and close up the leather. This WILL get your attention! Then when riding, it becomes quite difficult to stop shivering for about 15 miles in typical Western 100 degree heat, after which you can control the temp easily by slowly opening the jacket zipper about every 15-20 minutes. When the shirt dries out, your body temps will often drive you to longer sleeves for the next several hours: I have never had to wet the T-shirt more than twice in any day, even 1000-mile days in 95+ temps. ;)

My return trip is not going smoothly. Got about 20 miles today when I lost some power again. Not as severe as before, but noticeable. Wad able to hold highway speeds, so I limped to a rest stop thinking to replace the EI with the points. Did the swap and took off the #1 intake adjuster cover to set the timing and found this

Well, I called Lloyd and while we were talking I noticed this and this: a chewed up inside of the adjuster cover and a visibly bent adjuster. So without a replacement adjuster I am stuck.

Lloyd is being a superhero here. He is going to drive 2 hours to bring me a replacement plus one for the exhaust side too as when I pulled that adjuster to swap to rthe intake side to check if my valve is bent I noticed substantial pitting to the adjuster face.

It doesn't appear the valve is damaged, so hopefully replacement adjusters will get me back on the road in a few hours.
