Is it a boy or girl ? If its a boy call him a nickname a friend gave me--  Hondo  :D   My friend is a short guy so I call him Half Pint  ;)
I have a Rose, we always use one syllable names for our hunting dogs so its easier to call in the field.

I adopted a puppy, what do I name the little #$%*?

Little #$%* until he gets big. Then you call him, Big #$%*.   Or D.A.D. aka, Dumb Ass Dog.
But really enjoy the little dude and worry about the name later.  It will come to you.

Little #$%* until she gets big.

The thought occurred to me, but as with naming motorocycles, such names are not publically appropriate  ;D

I like the idea flybox1 had

Usually, or often.... the name morphs into a longer one.
. Like Ellie ...became Ellie-Bo-Bellie..
. And Tasha became Tasha-Bedasha

day one training of nameless pooch.

vienna sausages may have her convinced her name is "com'ere"

she was sorely disappointed the few times I called and had no treat.

Anyone have a favorite dog from a book/story?

Kurt Vonnegut always called his characters dogs Kazak.

Kazak was eaten by a trio KokoBono children in the story Galopagos.

In another story, Kazak traveled an interdimensional portal with it's owner.

pupper seems to respond consistently when I say "August"

I wonder if Autumn will do?
