The previous (first) owner was not much on preventative maintenance. That being said, the bike doesn't seem in too bad a shape otherwise. I am thinking I should get the fork tubes even though the lower section seems fine, I am concerned I can stop the advanced corrosion that is under the headlight ears. This is a project that I'm not going to be paying too much attention to the mounting tab, I'll just do it and worry about the total later, or maybe never. For example, almost every fastener will be replaced. The engine is in pretty good shape so far. I'm doing the top end (Hondaman) and I will inspect the bottom to see what shape it's in. Of course a new cam chain tensioner goes in as well as a clutch. I already have the new tank, side covers and fork covers (candy blue green, the color of my K0 back in the day). I also have quite a lot of work to do cleaning up and polishing. The frame will be POR15 black. I've been back and forth about this a lot, powder coat or POR15. I think POR15 (with a top coat to protect from UV) will work better for me as I will be able to touch it up if I nick it.
Onward and upward.
Thank you for your comments, I will post more as I move along.

Some of my attempts to post have not worked for some reason.
Today's progress:
Wheel bearings taken apart, fought me all the way. Nuts were difficult.
Forks apart. Only 3 ounces of very dirty oil, yikes.
Steering head apart, condition ok, I'll still be putting in tapered rollers.
Engine taped up for some cleaning.
Discovered why it seemed to be sluggish, in addition to the carbs needing work. The gearing is 18/45.

18/45? Probably do 150, but take you a while to get there.

Yes, the gearing also puts the engine at a disadvantage around town. I will go back with 17/48 and 102 links of 530.

I'm pretty sure the stock setup was 18/48 with a 100 link 530 chain.  Are you sure you want 102 links with a 17T front sprocket?

17/48 was stock for early models, 18/48 after K2?...not sure about that.  17/48 works great and is what I choose to put on all my 750's.  I rarely ride on the freeway.  Doubt there is much reason to ride on the freeway where you live.
If it works good, it looks good...

Yes we have no bananas, I mean Interstates. Most speed limits are 45, a tiny bit of 55, lots of sub 45. We've had a MiniCooper since 2012 it now has 40,000 mikes. The cars computer says average speed, all miles, is 25. I need around town gearing.
As for 102 links, if there is room in the adjustment, it would put the rear wheel a little farther back. Bad idea?
Maybe it won't work and I should stick to 100 links.
Thank you for the sage questions, well done.

Bike will turn a little quicker with the back wheel all the way forward,  ala 100 link.  Plus get more chain life before you run out of adjustment.
If it works good, it looks good...

Yes, but it's a slow drive (ride).

Really slow, but that's kind of the point.  Take your time, stop by a turn off and hike, etc.  Make a day of it.

I just tried to post and it dumped it again, I think it's the photos, I think I'll only do a few at a time.

The road to Hana is a real treat. Very slow, lots of blind corners and one lane sections. Many unscheduled closures due to rock falls when its wet, which is a lot of the time. I retired from H DOT, I managed the State Highway road maintenance on Maui, Lanai and Molokai. The road to Hana ate up more budget per mile than any other.
Worth the trip.

My wheel bearing retainers all gave me fits. I will be getting new ones.
Tried out my ultrasonic cleaner and simple green. Wow, great results, I will post a few photos.
On the main stand, right side, under the bolt, there is a washer with a extra hole, does anyone know what it's for ? Pictures coming, one per post.
Thanks for comments.

Steve,
Where on the island are you located?  I've been vacationing there since I was a young kid (my father was an airline pilot), and we had friends who lived in Paia, Pukalani, Makawao and Kula.

We are in Kihei in an area called Keonekai Heights. About .5 miles from the water and well out of the tsunami flood zone :-)

That is correct sir. Maybe a label on the frame somewhere (right rear?) showing correct routing of the tube

Could be for routing a tube, but I seem to remember a Hondaman post a couple weeks ago that the early K3's had a solenoid with the four posts all coming out the top, and some bracket, or something, that was for mounting a switch? down near the kickstand. My memory is lame but I know it was Hondaman.
FWIW.
