Looks good Bryan, as does the new Ducati.  Are you prioritizing the stock 550 so you have a running vintage bike, and then go back and forth between the monoshock 550 and Streetfighter?

Ya I want this 550 to be running then I will focus on the monoshocker

This is a pretty bike and a great one for a casual cruise, but you know which one I'm chomping at the bit on!

After chopping and welding up my fender how I wanted it, I sent it off to paint to match the tank/side covers.

Im happy with the results!

It has been a while but I have updates...

The bike is almost all put back together, wired and painted.

A huge thanks to Cal for putting up with my questions and idiocy.

I am running the early style carbs on this bike (from my 74) and I bought new cables to fit the '74 but the end that screws into the hand control is a different size thread...

Anyone have experience running early carbs on a late bike and how they got the cables to work?  :o

I agree, I’ll keep my eye out for a used one. I don’t want to put anymore money into this bike if I can avoid it, i need to get back to the monoshock bike with the head you built 🙌🏼

I'm... back... ;D

This bike is running, but not yet tuned. I am going to spend the weekend trying to get this one buttoned up and will post some "finally done" pictures as soon as it is.

Once this one is done I might sell it or keep it as an "around town" bike, but either way the monoshock project is next to get finished.

Cut a board to fit the frame rails and zip tie it to the frame and cut a foam pad out of HFor Northern Tools anti-fatigue matt and hot glue them together with dots , small, to zip tie all that together to the board and tuck a piece of black fabric over it and tuck the cloth between seat and foam with darts in the corners so it doesn't bunch up...and call it a seat, sketchy ghetto style to make the show...!  ;). Gaffers tape will protect the frame rail paint/powder from damage...

Welp this project is all done minus the tuning...

Is there a trusted guide for jet/carb settings for modified motors that could get me close before road testing?

Info:
KEIHIN 022A (off of my '74)
105 Jets
Stock settings and jets on everything else
650 cam
Kerker 4-1 with silencer

It revs really nice and sounds healthy but when I start to let out the clutch and get moving it feels really 'thin' and there isn't much power.

Kerker 4-1 with silencer

It revs really nice and sounds healthy but when I start to let out the clutch and get moving it feels really 'thin' and there isn't much power.

Bryan, just for giggles, test the fuel flow from your tank, and verify the fuel levels in the bowls with clear tubes if you haven't already, Fuel starvation will cause those symptoms and that's a nice easy fix if there's a glitch along those lines. Look for kinked hose, etc. before you disturb the current setup too. Honda fuel line? Something else?

Also, is the advancer clean and lubed and springy? Timing triple-checked?

Thank you, sir. I ordered some OEM fuel line and a fresh fuel filter (I had a bit of a jerry rigged test/tank setup)

I will report back once my order comes in  ;D

Welp this project is all done minus the tuning...

Is there a trusted guide for jet/carb settings for modified motors that could get me close before road testing?

New petcock, fuel lines and fuel filter installed today and I took it around the block on a test ride. I have never tuned a bike before so Im going to probably take it to a shop for the last 2% but she is running and driving.  The only bummer is that the front brake is hanging up... I have a new MC and one of the new polymer pistons with new pads.. not sure but Ill trouble shoot that later this weekend.

So did you have a fuel delivery issue? Is the prior problem solved? What was the problem?

Those front brakes absolutely suck. I’ve had tons of trouble getting them to operate properly too, but in terms of what ails you at the moment, there is one camp that says to take the centering screw and spring and drop it down into the deepest well you can find and start over.

I have no solid advice on that topic, I’ve tried 10 different things and finally they stopped binding, and I cannot say with any certainty what it was that made them finally not suck.

I say kill da goat mon.

BLAC, congrats on her moving under her own power and running!

Ensure your caliper's groove for the piston seal is totally clean. When it is not the seal does not retract the pad as designed.  If the pads are not parallel to the face they can do all manner of weird things, not to mention be irritatingly noisy. Feeler gauges to check the pad clearance in as many directions as possible can tell you if they are true to the disc. If the mark 1 eyeball detects anything it is likely not true to the disc surface.
