 There seems to be a shelf for the bearing to rest on, to keep it from being forced back out (or in).  Or am I still not understanding it?

 And I believe that the Yamaha YZF/FZR 600 rotors share the same dimensions.

Scott, yes, there is a shelf or stop for the bearing. Thus the change in diameter of the hole from 40 to 44.  Guess the bearing is a 44 and press fit instead of 43 as I was thinking...need to be slip free...wasn't thinking about it when posting previously.


I don't know if the CBR600 F3 rotor and FZ6 or R6 rotors are the same dish and size, I just went with FunJimmy's recommendations as the front end I picked up was not loaded with everything and mine was missing the top triple tree which I replaced with the FZ6 triple (setup for handlebars) and later think because of the finish on the fork lowers (black) they are R6 forks instead of FZ6 as every FZ6 model/year I looked at after they upgraded the forks to the R6 earlier design were silver.


I have an extra top triple as the first one I pulled the trigger on didn't have all the bolts and the little plastic caps for the socket head screws on the triple tree's handlebar mounts.  Was cheaper to buy another used triple than source new parts from Yamaha.

The more I look at it, the more I think he's referring to the lip that the bearing seats on. The pic shows a 40mm I.D., but I think maybe it's just mislabeled.

You may be over thinking this a bit. If you haven't already purchased the bearings, go out and get them. It's sometimes easier to visualize a project when you have a couple of the parts in hand. The ID of the bearing is a critical measurement. Obviously the hole in both spacers has to allow a snug interference fit so the bearing doesn't slip or spin. There needs to be a shelf (stop) to prevent the bearing from pushing in to far. The centre hole for the axle isn't a critical measurement. 40mm is a good size but it can also be 36mm etc and not cause any issues.

Keep in mind that a spacer tube that the axle fits into is required between the bearings to supports the inner bearing races. This prevents axle tension from side loading the wheel bearings.

 Oh, the deed is done! My buddy modified the triple for me and made all the needed bushings, spacers, etc. I just picked up the forks today from getting new seals and a rebuild, too!






 Those are not the bars I'll be using, and the fender is just sitting there for mock up.

I like the idea of using the R6 forks with a handlebar, though. 

Jeff Palhegyi is making DT07 trackers (based on the Yamaha FZ07) with R6 front ends.

Scott, Is your lower triple from a R6 or made by Cognitomoto? 

If an R6 the FZ06 top triple has handlebar setup built in.  They integrated a plate that was over both handlebar clamp towers around 2008 which makes them look a little funky I think.  The FZ06 went to the R6 fork design after the R6 went to USD forks and until the FZ06 went to USD fork design as well.

I will have to dredge up a pic of the fz06 triple for you and shown with forks....the bike photos tend to hide it with everything going on there...

 R6 upper an lower triples. The upper has the ignition mount machined off and it was drilled for CB350 (twin) risers and a Cognito Moto mount for a Speedhut gauge.

I'm curious as to how well the bicycle speedo works.  I fitted one to my 550F and it seemed to work well up to about 70mph where it's little brain then became overwhelmed.  It was a nice experiment, but in the long run, failed.  This was 7-8 years ago so maybe a more modern unit has worked for your application.

Sorry about the late reply. Well, the speedo is still on the bike and works fine. Note that most pushbike computers top out at 99 km/h, but some go to 199 km/h - get the latter and you're good! Mine is this one:
