I do recall an issue with Chinese sheet rock, but IIRC it was nationwide. It out-gassed some kind of toxic fumes??
It had a high content of coal ash.
It was loaded with sulfur and heavy metal residue. When it got damp it produced sulfuric acid fumes.

I do recall that the travel trailers used for temporary housing after Katrina had cabinets and other interior parts that out-gassed formaldehyde, which in the small spaces was enough to cause heath concerns.
I wouldn't be too quick to replace all the sheet rock, just enough for privacy, and then only on one side of the wall; this would allow more time for the exposed inner wall to dry out, as well as time for things to settle down on the supply side.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

We are NO.1 , highest in the nation.  State tax that is not gas price.  good to be No.1 ::)

Good news.  Since the gutting is done on the house I was able to work on the bikes today.  I drained the oil out of the CB's oil pan and oil filter.  Not a drop of water to be found.  She fired right up. I added more oil and off we went on a little putt around the neighborhood.  Stopped by kmb69's house briefly to say hello and thanks.

I also drained and replaced the tranny oil in the bobber.  Again, no water.  I would have done the engine too, but I need a new oil filter and some oil.  I'll probably pick that stuff up tomorrow even though I'm confident I won't find any water.  I did start the bike for two seconds just out of curiosity.

Both bikes need a soapy bath now.  I still have Colorado bugs on the CB.

Glad the bikes made it out.  I'm still hoping you will be able to come out to harvest next month.  I know it's probably a long shot. I don't know how your camping gear is fairing.   If you need a tent or anything like that, I can provide a spare for you.

Hey Joe.  At the moment I'm still planning on going.  Will make a nice break from the madness.  Thanks for the tent offer, but will probably be camping in style in my buddy's RV.

Kyle

Yes, Kyle.  I got your gift today.  Thank you!

I went to my friend's bike shop today and he donated some oil and a filter for my v-twin bobber.  After work I went to the house and did the oil change.  I got it off the lift and went to take it for a putt, but I found out quickly the clutch was messed up.  I put it back on the lift and pulled the clutch.  Half of the steels and fibers were stuck together with rust.  It's a dry clutch and water got it.  It's practically a new clutch.  Just replaced it in March.  No big deal.  I'll order a new clutch and the bobber should be good to go.

I'm waiting on some Consan Triple Action 20.  It's a fungicide.  I was told it's the shizzle for this type of thing.  No one has it around here.  Someone is shipping it out of state to us.

Have the waters receeded?  How are the repairsame to your house going?

What is remaining ingredients in dollars  for you to make the necessary  repairs and replace  the stuff that was lost?

If we have a goal  there is a good chance we can hit it.

The water has gone down.  The ditches are drying out.  Thank God for the cool front that just came through.

I can only guesstimate that it will probably take about 30-40K (probably more) to get the house in livable condition and that's doing most of the work myself with the help of friends.  We have received just under 10K so far with donations coming in from family and friends, my wife's customers, and the SOHC4 community.

I have filed a claim with my insurance company to see what they will do, but since I didn't have flood insurance I will probably get a rejection letter.  I'm still waiting on the adjuster to come out.  The first thing I did the day after the flood was register with FEMA.  I have to submit the rejection letter from the insurance company before FEMA will do anything.  If they do give us help it will probably be a mere pittance.

About 90% of our possessions, all major appliances (refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, stove) had to be pitched.  Beds, dressers, two brand new leather reclining sofas, end tables, dining room table, all the carpet, wood and tile flooring, all kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, bathtub, shower, doors and casings, base moldings...all that stuff was ruined.  We're also going to need a new front door, back and side exterior doors.

I think the only things we were able to save were the mattresses, TV, computers, kitchenware, musical instruments, some clothes, some artwork and knickknacks.

My shop faired pretty well since most things were elevated.  I lost some small power tools that were in a cabinet, a leaf blower and a few odd and ends.

I'm waiting to speak to an electrician friend so he can look at the house before we start putting things back.  The house is 50 years old and there is a bunch of oddball stuff going on with the electrics.  If any of that needs fixing the time is now.

We'll get through it.

I'm at the house right now having my AC and electrics inspected.  While I was waiting on the verdicts I started working on the bobber's clutch.  It's toast.  I had to pry the steels and fibers apart.  Big chunks of the clutch fiber was coming off.  Unusable.

The good news is the AC is tuned up and working fine.  The electrical needs a little work, but nothing major.
