I've done it now!
« on: October 10, 2017, 05:46:41 PM »
New truck.

I decided to trade in my 2000 Ranger. :'(  Went to the dealership, they sheared all the fleece off my body, then I bought a 2017 F-150. :D

Pictures later, for now - I'm exhausted, it's hard work getting hung out to dry by the man.

How much did you have pay them to take the Ranger?  ;D

I was actually a little insulted at how little they offered on trade.

Jerks, that truck was my baby for 20 years!

Yeah, you probably could have gotten more selling it on CL.

So did you get the Raptor package?

Nope - no weird super truck, no expensive packages.

Just a plain old F-150 4x4 v8.  Crimson red.

The base models are loaded down as it is.  Jeeze the dashboard looks more complicated than a commercial airliner.  Power everything, Sirius XM, Bluetooth link with my phone

I thought you couldn't even buy a truck without a bed liner any more. ::)

I’ve been spending heaps of time with a buddy building a pipeliner’s welding truck for the past several weeks. Guess what it’s made from? Aluminum, yup. Just like his last one. Know how many punctured are in his last one? Zero. Nada, none. Would have thought you were smarter than that.

Nice truck, EV. Got my eye on their new F-350. Wish it came with a 2x turbo V6 though!

Ford Rangers seem to be among the most popular trucks in the Philippines, followed by the Nissan Navara.

It's funny watching the young trophy wives, all of 4'8" of them driving the truck home after the ex-pat husband has had a skinfull of beer with the mates. Then again the traffic is fairly light at 11 AM.

We live in a wonderful world when the entry level V8 in the F150 makes 400 hp.

In my opinion Ford has done 2 great things with this vehicle: turbo charged 4 & 6 cylinders (more HP and torque available through tuning) for better gas mileage, AND aluminum body. NO MORE RUST!!!! EV you're like me: I keep vehicles a long time and even well-kept steel cars rust ultimately.

Even if you scratch the paint, the underlying panel won't rust. That's a huge benefit and change to vehicles.

Some one in town is building one ofvthem trucks, not stretched though.

In all fairness I am thinking the material on a welding deck truck , is at least 3x as thick aluminum as a pickup box, if not more...

Sorry, another worthless ad blocking banner site.  F'em.  Their priorities are clear.  Income over inform.   Superfluous eye massage selling unsupported opinion, I suspect.

Makes little difference to me, I'm a mopar fan.

Brand loyalty has absolutely NO rewards to the consumer.  Just helps fill a seller's wallet.
You just elect yourself into a "tribe" or "clan" for self satisfaction?  What actual value is that?

Read the fine print - the manufacturer always has the right to change the product (not necessarily the product label) in any way they see fit.  Trusting the brand is trusting in nothing tangible.

Since the 50's a Pontiac fan.  Guess the reward in that?  Even the seller had no loyalty to its own product.

Body panels on F aluminum’s are right about 16ga. We used 14ga plate. So you lose that one, Frank.

14 guage on a deck or are we talking service sides or toolboxes?
Weird eh, how non ferrous uses a different guage system.

I have to have a look at one of them Ford boxes  sometime. Seeing as how it's probably a drawn product. It could get thinner than stated size in certain areas subject to stretch.

Actually that's a good point about the aluminum body and rusting.

Until now I haven't thought of it that way - but you're right, if the paint does scratch or fail, the body will still be intact.

Just be careful if you put a tool box or camper on it. The fasteners NEED to be aluminum friendly, you don't want to have rot from dis-similar metals.

Congrats on the new truck, what trim level did you get? My XLT has all the bells and whistles I can ever use.
