pull off the left side cover, there will be a small rectangular box that has a lid that will pop off if you undo the clip. There will be 5 glass tube style fuses in there.

You should really have someone else do this for you.

I am usually all for someone diving into a project, but electrical wiring is somewhat complex if you are unskilled. You can do more harm than good here and possibly ruin your bike altogether. There really needs to be someone there with you who has an intermediate understanding of 12 volt electrical systems.

You mentioned that you ..."don't even know where your fuses are..."

Well, you NEED to know these things. Familiarizing yourself with the bike is job #1 before you just start pulling wires and replacing parts. A general knowledge of knowing where basic components of the entire system are extremely important if you are going to work on ANY machine...even a weed eater or chainsaw.

I'm not trying to be harsh here, but it seems like you are putting the cart before the horse.  Why don't you take a few hours and read the manual for your bike FIRST, then spend some time locating the various crucial systems and associated parts...  THEN you can try to attempt replacing parts and adding upgrades etc.

Keep in mind this is a vehicle...like a car or boat. You need to be safe and THINK about the consequences of altering or making changes without the skills and knowledge to do it properly and safely. The last thing you want is for an electrical fire to start while you are riding on a public highway.

Just my two cents.

They are under the side cover on the left side of the bike.

Download the owner's manual from the Manuals and Technical Documents section. Many of your questions can be answered there.

Actually, this is a better one. That is an older fuse box. This is what yours should look like.
