Big swing here too. At the Austin airport a few nights ago, it got down to 15*, a record low for that day.

Today it is up to a wonderful 63*... a difference of 48 degrees

Winter is back...35*F outside this morning. Not sure about a bike ride today, maybe the convertible?

Yah, I washed the salt off the car yesterday in my sweatshirt with 50 degree temps. Today we are at 15. Snow is almost gone with the past week of warm weather and rain. Winter is back in WI.

Well due to circulation problems (my blood is #$%*ing up) I'm cold all the time here, particularly my hands and now times I don't go out much in the winter, but the worst days are the ones with freezing rain or drizzle which we've just gone through, so listening to you bunch of southerners snivelling about being cold or it's snowy outside is kind of funny. So what you do is grab a small dirt bike 100-175 cc and go out and play in the ice and snow, it'll make you better drivers and I wont have to be envious of the warmth. Oh if you go to the picture of the Lakes and go to the right of centre about about a 1/3rd of the way down you can just about pick out the land mass there so go to the the pointy bit there and follow it down on the right hand I'm at the first notch.

yes ice riding is Cold fun..the costline in denmark is saltvater..and ve dont have any lakes of any bigger kinds...so it only vhen the aktic vinds comes to denmark ve frezze up for sea ice riding..it need -20 cencius for a week to come real good..its 10 years ago now..klimate sucks nowdays

i still have a Yamaha dt 125 LC..in the shed..but the old DKW 125 vas the best ice bike i ever rided..low seat and heigh stering..so your nees can rest on the tank sides..and balance the bike...

Warmed up enough to roll the H2 smoker out of the garage, started up on 2nd kick after sittin' for over a month. Pleased with that. Rode over to the local wildlife refuge...

Ha ha, now that's cold when the sea freezes over Lars, amazing! We've had some unseasonably cold weather over the last 24 hours, it got down into the 60's yesterday and I had a blanket on the bed last night for the first time in weeks! It absolutely bucketed down rain last night too which would be handy if there were any fires burning around the state, this being a high fire danger period. All it means for me though, is that my lawn will need mowing sooner, as it's gonna creep back up to 100 deg F later this week.

Yesterday it was 65 degrees and raining here in upstate NY, it wasn't like that this morning...a coating of ice and some powder snow in the teens....looking at below zero tonight with really scary windchill numbers. Allot like last week , when the diesels all froze up and the motherboard on the furnace failed, took 5 days to get the replacement part.
There' been no riding since I don't know when. Too cold in the theater to take a few short laps indoors.
Winter is almost half ways done, so I'm told. Did that help anyone out there? Yeah, didn't work for me either.

So here are a couple pics of central WI showing the snow gone from that 50 degree weather, but the ice on the channel and lake are good for skating. Put the blades on today and got in some runs out to the Lake Winnebago. The ice is between 12 and 16 inches thick. Cars and trucks are driving all over the lake for ice fishing.

Beautiful pics John! When my dad was alive, he and my ma would go to the big airshow in Oshkosh every other year until Dad was too old to travel, they loved the place!

Terry nice to know your parents liked Oshkosh. That EAA air show is still going strong and the largest attraction in WI. That would have been a long trip for your parents. I worked at the air show as an EMT on the ambulance for many years. Everyone of the visitors were the best people in the world. So friendly and they left the grounds spotless at the end of the show. It is the same today. They are a great group of aircraft enthusiasts.

Winter's not here for me!

Spent the day, well spent half the day at work, but the afternoon - took the Limited on a short ride, cleaned up the fallen tree branches, organized (ok, made a small dent) the shop, and in general totally enjoyed the clear and 50F weather.

I'm really beginning to warm up to that 750 Limited. When I first got it I hated that thing - it's heavy, the engine was grungy, the seat was shredded, carbs unreliable. After a while, some elbow grease, the bike's rolling just fine, brakes don't require superhuman strength, my new (old) seat look wonderful, and even after sitting for a year the bike runs absolutely flawlessly. All I really have to do is do some detail work on the body - clean the moss, grime, flaking engine coat, and she'll look brand new (well good enough for me that is).

Last time I went racing on ice with a Kawasaki 350 Big Horn I high-sided, flew through the air, along with the bike and watched it land right on my left knee.
Hopped back on the bike and finished the race. Later that day I noticed I couldn't take my pants off as the knee swelled up a bit. Messed me up for life,
but I still ride when it's cold, as long as there is no ice on the roads.

5:40 this evening on the way home from work-----looked at the outside temp and it was a frosty 79*F. I don't know how long I can stand this cold snap!

Sorry guys, I don't know how you guys stand it. I HATE cold.

The best scenario is :
Wisconsin from April 1st to November 1st. Then anyplace south (east or west) from October 31st to March 31st. Those dates can be extended in Wisconsin by 2 weeks either side but I'm being cautious. I usually target the ides of March for the first riding and getting bikes out of storage. November 15th for laying them up.

Wow, that is chilly mate, it's 105 here @ 5:30pm as I type this, and it's gonna be hotter tomorrow! Still, I've got some small chunks of frozen lake in my glass of Bourbon, so that evens it out some......

Roller coaster ride here, last Thurs it was 70F, yesterday down to 18F, Saturday expected to be back in the 70's. I love the 70's!!

74cb750 I actually think you can have more fun on smaller bikes than 350 unless you're really good on ice the guy's around what used to Galt in Ontario used to race cut down step through Honda's I think 90 was the top cc you were allowed and they had a ferocious league going no one really got hurt, pretty well every one could afford it and they didn't bug the neighbours on the river.

Not if I can avoid it John, with my helmet jacket and gloves on it's just too much for me now, but I saw some "One Percenters" roaring around last night with just helmets, shorts and tattoos to protect them and decided that I wasn't unhappy in my air-conditioned car.......

The ocean was freezing on the beach recently in Maine and a few were ice skating on that smooth glass coating of ice. High alpine lakes are safe to ice skate on this time of year...just wise to check the ice and a live vest and pair of ice picks strapped to you are good safety measures.

Imagine the lakes are seeing some ice sailing competitions as well this time of year.

Ice racing is a motorbike and car event in some northern lake regions.

Supposedly the weatherman said we were going to see warmer than normal winter in this area... I think they missed on that one.

Sun is out here in New England for the first time in months. Might get up to mid 50s! I am getting the S90 ready for a quick whip.
