My first protect, Honda CB750G revival.

Hi all, this is my first post on the site so please bear with me. I have recently acquired a 1977 CB750G. I have taken the bike on as a project that I will hopefully complete before the year is out. In her current state she looks a little worse for wear but with plenty of talc I’m sure at the end of it all I’ll have a lovely classic bike.

750G? Looks like a 77F with a tracker seat and fancy paint job. Good base for a project. Good luck!

I think it's just the vin code that he's misinterpreting... haha

With the race bike look and Yoshi decals, I wonder if it has any Yoshi parts. 🤔
It might very well have a nice set of pistons and cam in it.

Please don't change the look. I'm ok with refreshing things but this is way to cool to change up. It's VERY late 70s superbike.

Evening all, thank you for the response and suggestions following my last post. In the past two weeks we have started her up then stripped her down to the frame (the easy part). Our intentions now are to renew all the perishables external to the engine, keep the paint but smarten it up, get the bright work re-done and paint the engine, re-new the clutch, wiring look and ignition system and see where that leaves us.

I was trying to figure out the front.  The forks look like they are from a CB750F1-2, but the risers on top of the triples look like they are off a GL1000.

77 F2 General Export set up for racing?

I'm interested in what has been done under that valve cover. Yoshimura Daytona cam perhaps? That would be an easy look and see. Perhaps it has a "B" stamped in the end of the cam? Going a little further what the head contains? Porting to go along with the larger valves? A measurement of the holes in the cylinders and what the top of the pistons look like.

Intriguing  :o
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

My stock f3 has risers like that on the top triple...maybe not as tall as pictured?  Or maybe it just looks tall because of the lack of black paint or tricky camera angle?
If it works good, it looks good...

Another few hours on the bike tonight, checking the gear change mechanism and alternator stator and filed coils, all were ok. Removed the starter motor (which would only turn the engine intermittently during starting) also removed the clutch to inspect early next week (found the remains of a small ‘O’ ring in the bottom of the clutch casing). Not sure we’re to go next with it, depends on funds but the ‘to do’ list is getting longer every time I go in the garage.

A cold night in the garage tonight, not much done in the way of the restoration. We cleaned the bike up and tested the rectifier and left/right switch switch pods. Also measured the clutch and it’s in need of replacement. Not sure what to do regarding paint. The panels, frame and engine have all been hand painted. I think the paint on the panels, tank and seat will stay and the frame, swing arm and engine will have to be redone.

It’s not going to be a quick build, plan is to have it done by Christmas 2019. As always we have bags of enthusiasm, we’re just saving up the necessary funds to do the job right. As far as modifying it goes it’s going to stay pretty much as we found it, no bells, no whistles just like the guy who had it in the early 90’s left it.

I'm with slikwilli.  This is a great looking bike. 

Are you going to just preserve or go further with a semi-restoration (re-paint/powder the frame, etc.).  Most of the paint will come back to life with some polishing and re-shooting the clearcoat.

It’s a semi restoration, we don’t intend to strip the engine down and rebuilt it. We’ll renew the clutch and ignition system and gaskets where needed but that’s about it for the engine (might be a risk). As far as the rest of the bike goes we'll do it justice that’s for sure.

Me, my friend Taff and any other member of the crew who wants to help really. I think we might get a bit more interest when it warms up. I don’t think people want to be out in the cold faffing with bikes. Agree with the pints comment!!

A quiet one again tonight, dismantled the front wheel and the steering stem. little and often and we’ll eventually get there.

Another night in the garage, had a bit of a nightmare trying to get the old tyres off of the wheels, managed it though. All of the wheel hardware has been removed in readiness for them being refurbished. All nuts bolts and bearings will also be replaced.

Looks like that paint scheme was going after the old MV Agusta 750S America, or were there others that also used that?
