750K2 Hot Rod Revival
« Reply #100 on: September 15, 2018, 09:43:46 AM »
The bike looks great Joe. Hopefully we'll get a meetup set up down your way if not for this Fall then sometime next year and I'll be able to see it in person.

Hard to believe how fast time is moving...years gonna be over soon.

Pretty much finished the controls..all wired and working. Wasn’t happy with the Magura Clutch...it was angled too far away to be comfortable to grab the lever.

I just ordered an clutch assembly for a 2002 Ninja EX500 to use...it has an adjustable lever and will match the nissin brake lever as well.

Hopefully will have all done next weekend to actually ride.  Just trying to do it all just right and be done with it.

Joe

side mounted brake light and plate mount removed.  Installed Lucas LED Light

It's a bit of a compromise as obviously with the single rider Gamen Seat it looks a little out of place...but I've also got the slim 2 up seat on order and i'll be swapping back and forth so the missus can join on vintage rides.  I can always rethink and figure a slimmer LED Bar Setup in the future.

Looking good Joe and I am enjoying your attention to detail. My own K4 is currently at Mikes on the stand getting finished up after cam install etc etc so I feel your pain about not riding. However its all worth it in the end when you have a well running/well built bike as you roar down the road  8)

Good luck!

That's the same style taillight I had on my 550, I really like it.

Got my slim seat...just need to grab some seat hinges off of eBay.  But this should work good for swapping on when the wife wants to ride.

Really pleased with the new clutch perch.  Now I need to get a shorter clutch cable (or shorten this one) and decide if I’m going to polish the lever or replace the Nissin Brake with a black lever.

Looks good. You can get a black lever for the brake master. I think RS-34's with different carb insulators would make a nice difference. CR's are so quirky and ethanol fuel just makes things even worse.

Hi Mike...RS34's are on the Radar.  What I may do is sell these CR29s over the winter to fund the 34s.  I just did a full rebuild with new kits, so they'd be mostly plug and play for someone else.

Can you educate me on the Carb Insulators?  Are different ones required for the RS's?

Also have a few things on the list before swapping carbs.

- Steering Bearings and Swingarm Bushings are Shot
- Front Brake upgrades
- Possible replacement of Front and Rear Rims...tending towards Excel...but haven't decided yet.  Also haven't considered stock sizes vs not.

I'm hoping to get the Bike Dyno'd before winter sets in so I know the setup is dialed in well before digging into the chassis stuff.

Finally found use for an old solder pot that I saved from the trash at work long ago.  Shortened the clutch cable by about 2 or 3 inches.

Wasn’t too bad...the solder tinned up just a little past the barrel, but I think it’s ok for now.  Will do better on the next one :)

Hey Scottly!  The Starter Clutch Gear seems to be working well...hasn't skipped a beat so far  ;D

Bah...if it isn’t one thing it’s another.  In the whole process of messing with the front end I realized the steering bearings were bad bad...it became really apparent when I had the weight off the front...it would almost spring into a deep notch in the middle position.

Have it all back apart now to install tapered bearings

Going to replace the broken top bracket with one from a spare frame I have.  Just need to clean it up and paint it.

Holy Crap its July  :o  House renovation projects have been taking up all my time and hardly have gotten any garage work going.  Starting to kick it back in gear to get the 750 and my little CM91 on the road again.

I sold the CR29's for a great price and have a set of RS34's on the way from CycleX!  Super excited as I was able to get them at the current going price before the soon to come increase  :D  Cant wait to hear them clacking away on the 750!

Triple tree is all blasted and ready for paint and bearings. Once I get it all installed the electrics are getting the M-Unit Blue Treatment.  Before anyone asks...No...I didn't need to do it.  But this particular bike is the super fun happy toy that I want to play around with and the M-Unit stuff always caught my attention.

Check out those sweet Messner Moto switches  8)  Thanks Mirko!

Currently trying to decide about headlight and turn signals.....not sure whether to keep what I have or upgrade.  Decisions for later.

Cheers, Joe

Small progress....got the triple tree all cleaned up and painted with satin black epoxy paint (VHT).

Tapered bearing set installed.  All stainless hardware and bits in order to get it put back together.  Should look nice and clean when done.  Heading out of town till Sunday.  Hopefully bits all arrive by then.

According to VHT no curing is required.  I used VHT All Weather Epoxy.  https://www.vhtpaint.com/specialty/vht-epoxy-all-weather-paint

Mmmmm.....goodies  8)

Got my RS34's from CycleX in the mail today.  Kenny installed richer needles compared to stock as he thought it would work much better for my setup.  Got new 77-78K Manifolds to assist with installation of these carbs.

Got a bunch of new stainless bolts and hardware for the front end...really finishes it all of nicely.  Few more bits coming in and then I'll get to installing everything for good.

Slow progress but progress none the less.

Yessir...that is the plan.  We're taking Ron's (MCRider) bike to get Dyno'd soon at the Ducati Shop.  If thats a good experience I plan to take mine there as well.

Got most everything needed to get the m-unit wired. Pretty sure I’ve figured out the mounting of the Ricks R/R, M-Unit, Fused Starter Solenoid.

After that it’s just laying out the loom.  Then carbs and Dyno
