benji sent me a present
« on: January 13, 2007, 03:11:35 PM »
After I sent him some $$

Some of the pics came out a little blurry because of the low light, but the flash was washing the image out too much. I still need to figure out what I'm going to do about mounting the license plate. I'm thinking about doing a side mount.

i hope your a$$ has more padding than that seat  ;)

nice looking... my tag is attached to a very similar seat with a bent piece of metal that is screwed to the seat pan from underneath and protrudes out the back then angles down to a good angle.

i'll take pictures if you like... when it's not 0 degrees outside (and in the garage)

Good looking seat on a great looking bike.
Just do a sidemount and be done with it.

Unfortunately my ass doesn't have much more padding than that seat, but it feels relatively comfortable. The seat does come with a bracket but I'm not sure if I want the plate on the rear. Post a pic when you get a chance.

thanks man, I'll take a stab at the bracket. If I fail tho, I may need to employ your services.

I like the covered seat better than the non-covered (i think).
Here is how my buddies BCR seat looked slapped on my CB750...

I considered that one too, but after I saw a pic with the red stitching, I had to have this one.

here ya go... sorry i don't have one showing the underneath side of the seat but, you'd be very hard pressed to get me to even step foot outside.  i don't like being cold and it's in the single digits.  good luck whichever route you go.

psst... if it were me i wouldn't mount the tag on the side... looks dorky and unnatural in my opinion (like, it was an afterthought)... sorry proteal.

p.s.  no that's not a big white scuff on the tank!  it's reflection.

Looks good Hef. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. The Benji seat did come with a bracket, but it looks like i would need to fabricate a bracket to fasten to the seat bracket. I kinda like the side mount look. I think it makes the back end look clean. Judging by the weather here, it looks like I'll have some time to think about it. Doesn't look like there is going to be good riding weather anytime soon.

BTW, those of you that have gone to non-stock seats, did you cut off the stock mounting points? I'm trying to determine the best method.

kurarico... i like the way the seat fits under the rear of the tank like that but, i looks ultra thin in the width aspect.  how does it feel when you're sitting on it.  i'd say my seat is a good 2 or 3 inches wider than yours.

No, I use the rear stock monting point on the right side.
Unbolted and removed the stock seat lock on the left side and made a bracket instead.
Check my gallery for pics of the mounts....

That was my first thought too when I put it mocked it up. But it actually doesn't feel too bad. It definitely is quite different from the stock seat. I guess the real test will be when I actually get to ride on it.

No need to be sorry, thats what this site is about, opinions.
Like me, I think your tail lite setup looks "rigged", as it was something you did at the last minute one day to get some riding in and left it.
To each their own right ?

Hate to jump on a run down horse here, but they both look a bit "rigged" to me. I'm planning on chopping my rear fender this winter and have been looking for a nice clean way to hang the plate off of a greatly reduced fender.
Found a couple items I'm thinking of, this one might do it for me. Have to look a bit more before I commit.

i think DME's bike achieves the look that i like most.  tucked away and leaves a clean line.

I try to tuck the light up under the seat as much as possible.  Side mounts are cool too, but more of a cruiser/chopper thing.  I don't want to worry about dragging stuff like that in a turn.

Just remeber to use locknuts and tighten everything down good.  I was coming to a stop sign the other day and heard an awful screeching sound.  First thought was "not my MotherF*#)*in transmission again".  I pulled over and some kid in a minivan yells "hey your license plate fell off".  The whole damn assembly vibrated off and got sucked up in the rear wheel and stuck between the swingarm.  Oops, my bad.  Shut up kid.

Anyway, it's rebuilt now...bigger...stronger...faster...and with Locktite.

The tail light is a "Lucas Style" and the turn signals are the mini type you see everywhere.  I bought the cheapest I could find and they work well.

To mount it, I cut and bent a piece of scrap 1/8" aluminum to hold everything.  It bolts to the bridge between the shocks under the seat, makes a 90 degree bend where the tail light goes, and then makes another 45 degree bend to hold the plate and tags.  The shape of the tail light fits the countour of the seat pretty well, so it was easy to tuck up under there.

kuyarico and benji, that is one awesome looking seat.  As for comfort, you could choose coolness over comfort. ;)  On the other hand, years ago I remember seeing ski pants that had "butt" padding. ;)

Alittle tip I picked up while I rode a hardtail...
1. Go buy yourself some Dr.Schols Gel shoe inserts
2. Cut them to fit in your back pockets
3. Go for a ride (it actually does make a difference)
