Put on my church clothes and went for a ride in the woods.
Made a few small donations to the tool booths.

This roadside attraction was like "boom! Sausage Creature!"

Okay everybody.  I have a new plan.

Gonna earn the IRON BUTT patch on a mission launch from Houston to Tombstone.

22ND of July.  1,014 miles.  God willing, it shouldn't take too long to accomplish.  Let that freak flag fly!

The professionals said to take interstate 10.

This has been a fun week.
The wind has been having a field day with my tent.  Last night it tried to give me a hug while I slept.
Maybe it's time to consider upgrading the poles and putting more stakes down!

The locals have a pretty interesting sense of humor and sense of justice.
Lies, damn lies, statistics, and capital punishment.  Tell you whut.

The rain came today.

Just as I was headed for base camp.  Got enough dihydrogen monoxide exposure to last all day.  Walked into the town singing soggy bottom boys.

Making progress on the whole.  Getting better at stupid smiles and quirky jokes.

Wish I had a battery powered boot dryer though!

The poor tent continues to get punished by the weather here.  Having some water ingress which is to be expected from such budget conscious swap meet purchases.

The rain and the chirping cricket are comforting sounds.  The occasional splash of water falling off the rain cover.

I might actually manage a decent night's sleep in these conditions.  Maybe an excuse to sleep in should the storm persist.

In the words of Sir Edmund Hillary,

It is not the mountain that we conquer, it is ourselves.

In the Zen of mountain climbing, it is often true that one must stop short of the summit.  There is no shame in doing so.  It is not for a lack of ambition that one came so far.  So turn, enjoy the view.  This mountain has not defeated you.  You have joined the ranks of many who came before, and left a trail for those to come.
There are more mountains to climb, and there you will find yourself.  Again.

Tombstone Blues

Take care of yourselves.

Small town people. I took a new job as a life insurance agent...
No time to try to wrench or ride.
I've noticed the smaller the town the more backwards people sre. Trust me I'm traveling the wild and wonderful state of WV almost daily.

Gurp, ain't that the truth - the nonsense some radio dj's preach.

When you're in a public attraction and the radio says "exterminate Latinos".

Makes me wanna go Uhhhh, HOLA!  COMO ESTAS?!  DONDE ESTA LA BIBLIOTHECA?

Left Tombstone on Tuesday but not without the requisite tourist trophies.
Gained a lot of knowledge there too.  Met some amazing people.
People back home kept calling.  There is work to be done yet.

One night of karaoke water pistol fights and a morning tire/oil change in Phoenix I set off down the highway.
Set the saddlesore clock and witness signature at 1pm then set off for as far as I could go.  Rode well into the night beyond Tonopah

Took a wet nap in Austin Nevada, the locals are real funny, "free camping in the park" they said!
Was up and out of there soon after the sprinklers turned on.

Hit the 1000mile mark in Burns Oregon.  23 hours later.

Would have made it here sooner but the area51 cafe and uh...ahem... was offering free tours.
Should have asked for a bike wash while I was there.  Oh well, got the patch and some insight into how Nevada rolls.  The burger and fries were delicious too.

Met a real character testing his bike out in McDermitt too.  The 2019 Harley's have a much smoother tone than I'd grown accustomed to hearing.  More rumble less heartbeat of America.

Been especially prudent with the overtaking of many semi trucks.
My apologies to the USMC horse trailers.  You know what they say about the Ranger Battalions!  Had to do my old man some proudly today 🍻

Tonight I'm booked into bend Oregon.  Missed the route mileage for a bun burner by some 234 miles.  No biggie.  Need some quality sleep and a relaxed meal.

Will be home in time for the AMCA show and shine.  Gonna take the fun route from Sisters, over mt good then mob up the i5 from pdx to Grand Mound.

Looking forward to that walk in the park.
