Topic: My First SOHC, Change of Plans!!!

Okay, so the deal with the bike below is dead in the water.  I found a deal I couldn't refuse, an immaculate '77 Super Sport for $900.  Clear title, beautiful condition and all original, except for kerker 4-1 exhaust.  I really feel bad because the seller of the black and white bike below was a great guy but the bike I found is in three times better condition and for $400 less.  I'm hoping to buy that two-tone seat from him though.  I fell in love with.  So now, I'm in the market for a fabricator, painter, uphosterer, drag bars, helmets and a rear tire.  Any one know of any smokin' deals?  I did find some helmets on ebay for $20 bucks (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DOT-half-Motorcycle-Helmet-Black-Adult-XXLarge_W0QQitemZ150086361585QQihZ005QQcategoryZ6749QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) Is this thing really going to protect my skull?  Anyone have any experience with the cheapies?  They have a 105% money back guarantee.  Over and Out

Old bike:

After month's of research I am finally in the process of buying my first Road Bike.  From every aspect I considered while comparing bikes, the Honda SOHC-4's came out ahead: classic looks, performance, reliability, parts availability, and just pure fun.  I love the community that's out there behind these bikes.  Hell the message board community was almost enough to motivate me toward a CB singlehandedly!  I have one picture, but my bike will be at my house soon and there will be lots of pictures of the pretty gal.  She's a 74 CB750 K in good shape and some tasteful mods.  Rebuilt carbs, syched, jetted, 4-1 Kerker exhaust, cafe style drag bars, rear air-shocks, custom two-tone seat.  Let me know what you guys think.  Hell the prior owner might be a member on here!

Hey everyone!  Thanks for the warm welcome!  So, I've always liked the seat but had planned on replacing it with lower profile "cafe" double.  You guys may have changed my mind about that!  Well, If I do, the seat will be up for grabs and it's in immaculate condition.  Einyodeler, I hadn't thought of whitewalls but you're absolutely right, that looks slick as snot with the two-tone seat.  Any photoshoppers out there that can throw some white on the tank, I'm curious if that would vibe or if it would take away from the look.  Planned mods - bobbed front fender/mud guard, shorter tail (I plan on fabricating it myself to be just long enough for the tail light at the back of the seat).  I've got 4-6 weeks before riding time and some extra scratch, I've thought about disassembling and powder coating the frame and replacing all grimy parts and repainting side covers and tank.  Anyone have an estimate on time to completely dis and re-assemble?  I've got just about every evening free and I'm a skilled mechanic.  I just don't want to be putting her back together when that wonderful spring riding comes around.  Also, it's got air springs on the rear which I'm not to psyched about the look of.  What's your guys' take, are they worth keeping on there?  I can slam the frame to the ground with those things, they're just so ugly.  And yes, medic09, if I had thought about it, my name should have been Heironymous Josch.  Thanks guys, talk to you soon!

Man, that would be hot.  As for the tank, what about a black tank wiith a white check strip (2" wide) running front to back?  Thinking about what Rocking-M is doing, you might put a small circle -- about twice as wide as the strip -- in the center of the strip with a "59" in the cricle?

That's a hell of an idea!  I haven't seen any black/white bikes done up tastefully throughout!  What do you think of the entire bottom portion of the tank being white up to the level of where the white of the seat meets the tank?

painting the tank white would continue the line and look the best in my opinion (if you keep the seat).
 
i dont think you should try and two tone the side, but on top i would suggest a smart racing stripe and personally i would stay away from the checkered flag. 

ps the original pic here is proteal55's 72 750K (one incarnation of it) he is a good guy to pay attention to for style tips, perhaps he will make an appearance. 

whatever you do with it, you can count on half of us to love it and the other half to have a nit to pick with it, but it looks like a fun starting point for some serious personality.  good luck

Thanks.  My preference is to try to keep things as simple as possible, so I might just leave the whole tank black -- the white seat sides, white walls and checkerboard would work as accents.  On the other hand, it might look cool to split the tank black and white; it'd kind of give it a police bike look.  Perhaps it might work to paint the tank white on top and black up to where it meets the seat line.  I am imagining that black might look a little "heavy" on top of white.  Plus the black/white mix would hint at a checker box.  That said, we've got some super talented Photoshop users.  Mebbe one of them could do a mockup.

KK, that is great concept.  Thanks for mocking that up for me.  I'm not a fan of checkers either.  A center stripe on the tank would be easy to mask and sharp as hell.  I like the all-white tank.  I, personally, don't think any incarnation of black & white on this bike is going to look much like a cop bike, so that's not a concern of mine.  Oh and I already have Oreilly signature guages, the problem is they keep telling me to stop spinning, oddly enough they just keep on spinning.  Hypocritical pieces of s***.
