Changing Spark Plugs (I’m getting smarter?).
« on: March 12, 2020, 01:03:19 PM »
Today I was pulling out and reinstalling plugs in the Rickman CR (Honda SOHC cb750 engine). I have a nice 1/2” drive socket that I turned down years ago. It fits perfectly in every hole and with a small adapter and my 3/8” drive ratchet, plugs come out easily.

Usually, I cut off a small length of black hose, to push down over the spark plug, and make it easier to line up and start threading it in. Today, I was also installing new ends on the plug wires. I simply pushed the plug into a straight NGK end. It has the rubber caps at both ends, so screwing in the plugs was simple. The plugs don’t tip over, the holder is perfectly straight and the rubber tip on the wire end makes it super easy to turn. What a revelation....... Only took 40 years! Try it.

Umm...the sparkplug wrench in the OEM toolkit has a rubber retainer washer up inside to grip the plug while your 17mm wrench or socket turns it in, too. ;)

I just carry a 2.5 or 3 inch piece of rubber tube that slips over end of plug.. impossible to strip a thread.
Best socket tool I have seen the toolkit socket with a 1/4 drive socket welded to the other end.
