Cant view links on the system i have, if the screen was clean how did the debris get into the pump as all that between screen and pump is cast oilways!

Still say engine out and full strip/clean. You MUST find what that debris is/was and remove all of it before assessing what you need to replace

If I strip the engine and I lost an oil ring, I need new piston set 0.5 over, clean the engine, some new gaskets, will I need to bore again?

You’ll have to inspect the cylinder sleeves to assess if there’s any damage to the surface. It’s likely your rings got mangled in there, and yes, running it further ain’t gonna make it better.

Engine rebuild time.

If I rebuilt the engine again, what would I even do to prevent this from happening again? The only reason I used cruzin image pistons was because it's impossible to get oversized genuine Honda. The more I think about this the more I want to just put the bike in the back of the garage for 20 years.

Until you open it up no one will know 'for sure' until you inspect it. Ring destruction will generally always require boring and or new sleeve.

Get an inspection camera in there, look around.. can probably do a leakdown test.

What a bummer, that's a real shame. Having looked at your pic of the oil pump, wow, there sure is some broken metal there, also, why is the gerator not fitting flush in the pump?. My view on it would be that its glass bead from the vapour blasting that started all that destruction, fine enough to get through the pick up screen but acted as grinding paste around the engine. It will be interesting to see what the crank/ gearbox/  camshaft etc look like.

It is blasted but don’t you think that would cause small particles, not large ones? Also I was very thorough about cleaning the parts after blasting.

But, did you blow out all of the oil passages amid the cleaning? I think that’s what the others are getting at

Yes. Air compressor, then pressure washer followed by air compressor again. definitely focused on the oil galleries

Is there needle rollers in the oils pump ? Maybe a roller came apart. . Debris looks like some bigger piece chopped up real small. Hmmmm.

I have seen more than a few engine rebuilds fail because something was missed during the cleaning process. The guy who taught me said to do four complete cleanings, each one as complete as you think the first one was before you start the build.
Don't quit now, you have come so far. Listen to Bryanj, take it apart. It will be much easier for you to put it together the second time. Clean it out like you just started the build after you find what failed.

Ok here is what I found so far.

No broken rings. No blowby. Some vertical scoring in sleeves. One white colored valve #3 intake. Inside of engine smells like pork rinds.

To me, those cross hatches look pretty heavy.

That is a pretty good scuff looks like .. not end of the world.. but its sorta low hours I think.. ?

 Did you pull out the pump rotor ? I wonder if it maybe sheared the key  from debris..,  if it turning now with shaft  it could still be broken.. and start slipping under pressure..

Can shaft looked great, chain great, nothing looked out of the ordinary. I did test the metal flakes and they seemed non magnetic

Yes you can see that the key did damage both the shaft and the rotor

What I’m wondering is, if the vapor blasting medium caused this, wouldn’t it be most evident at the first oil change? Because that oil was great (no debris). This strikes me as more of a sudden failure, bust based on the size of the flakes.

The threads I read about vapor blasting is that it scores up your crank and bearings, or even causes it to seize. But these flakes seem to be aluminum so it would be from either of those parts

What grit was your cylinder hone? Did you do the hone work or did a shop do it?

I had it professionally done at a place here in Seattle recommended by a few members here. Don’t know what grit but I gave them the instructions mark gave me to pass on. Related to decking.

Difficult to tell from a photo but have you got some bits missing from the oil control rings or are those the ends?
