Just picked up this 72 cb750
« on: October 11, 2021, 02:14:23 PM »
Got this for $700 from an old timer that bought it new. . Looks over all in pretty decent shape. Oughta cleanup real nice. Was wondering in regards to paint....
Would y'all go the yamiya route or have original repainted.Theres a specialist in Lancaster SC somewhat close that is all over eBay with his vintage bike paint job services . Seems close to the same price surprisingly.
Thinking about sticking a yoshi pipe on there...

Great find at a great price. There is a lot of potential there.   If you consider the Yamiya route be aware that they miss an important detail in the paint job. It's an instant indication that it is a repaint and not original. In fact most paint shops paint the left side cover incorrectly.

What do they usually miss?

Awesome find- wish I could run across something like that some day.

Bottom tab on the left side cover shouldn't be painted to match, originally it is left black.

Correct. I would say over 90% of restorations omit this little but telling detail. My thinking is that if anyone is going to spend so much money on a restoration they better do their research and do it right. Paint shops should know this but they don't.

Yep good score. Color choices here in 72 were gold, orange or brier brown. Pipe on it now is a MAC.

Nice find, orbs.  How does the inside of the tank look?  Can you remove the sidecovers w/o breaking the tabs??  That will help decide on which route to go regarding paint.  And if you do buy a new body kit, you could always sell the original to offset some of the cost.

Is it the original body kit? I think I see a left side jewel on backwards.
Great find.

Thanks, super nice gentlemen as well. Lives on his own gold claim and panned for gold. Had an interesting life story. Love to buy old stuff for the stories and history alone.

Check the 'pillars' on the head...........looks to me like later version. I would not restore the body if the motor parts are not visually correct. Also check the tank.......the black emblems and bottom trim indicate K0 vintage but could have been switched. Late production K2s were sharing parts with transition to K3 but the heads did not change until mid-K3.........still a great find at that price.

I met a guy once who was building a 750 hill climber. The core he was using was a 1972. I got to go over and go through the cast offs and buy what I wanted. Much to my surprise the gas tank he was not using was a wrinkle. He was going to saw the mufflers off some great HM300's and run straight pipes that luckily I saved. Got headlight, turn signals, rear swinger and a ton of other goodies. Parts really got moved around on some of these over the years !

Cb750 2232912...... I think it's a 73 which means that tank for sure is prolly going up for sale.

That'd be wonderful. What's the going rate for a solid  K0 tank these days. I see yamiya has the 73 k3 flake sunrise orange bodywork in stock...
Prolly gonna go that route. Always liked that color...

Probably doesn’t have a date code by then but check under side of the tank were the rubber  hold down strap goes. Unfortunately it seems today’s buyers care little about authenticity, I see stupid money going at shiny new over correct.
