550K valve spring seats/washers
« on: January 30, 2022, 07:15:08 PM »
I am doing a top end on my 1975 CB550K. While reassembling the heads with the help of a video, I realised I did not have any of the washers under the inner valve springs. Since I took my time during the disassembly and organized the parts, I highly doubt they were ever installed. Has anybody seen an example of heads without this inner washer/seat? Should I replace them?

Thanks,
Chris

Does seem a little unusual.

Ideally, you would want to get the calipers out and measure rhe installed height of the valve spring.  Then ad shims until they meet specification.

You need those hardened washers under each spring. They prevent the springs from wearing into the soft head, which will happen VERY quickly in operation. They are not shims, they are seats.

They stick to the head and valve guide and are hard to see plus difficult to remove
