That looks like a fun project I'll be tagging along to see it go together.

Gee were you good this year or what?

My bank account thinks I was VERY bad  ::)

Hang on, the hemorrhage is not finished yet since you have more to buy for build and more machine work...
Haha, such a ray of sunshine aren't I.
A 6-8k motor build will transform the bike with near 100 hp when finished. Just get a bike (re)appraisal and insurance coverage in case there is a loss.
It will be a really fun and nice ride when finished...

That cylinder will make bike to look extra good!
That displacement will add extra torque with less need to gear down.

Be careful when assemble the cylinder over the pistons.
The oil rails are most likely of the very thin and flimsy model as mine JE 71.25 mm piston. Too easy to pinch one.

See Mike's thread about Billet block where I wrote about it end of 2016, early 2017.

I use late CB750 clutch with double metal disc. Complete from an F2.
Later replaced the pressure plate with billet one. EBC clutch fibers and really hard Barnett springs for CB550 and smaller CB's. They are black 66 lbs version wich is part of the number.

I have noticed that engine need to be warm before twisting the throttle. 20 minutes riding. Twist too soon will cause slip. Mostly at +3000 rpm on 3rd gear.
Maybe the metals need a new glass bead treatment.

Glass bead on the steel plates would help Per. I have an F2 clutch assembly with OEM plates and Barnett springs......it doesn't slip. ;)

I'll check for my extra plates and fix them. Then a quick change. There are hopefully more power now that make it to slip easier. Slip tire better than clutch! ;D
But so far, only on not really warmed up engine.

Heh....cant wait. I hate the fact that I need split the cases to bore out for the block.  The bottem end is rock solid and I dont really need to do anything but take apart, bore cases, and put back together.  All else is already up to snuff and good.

My bike like the 125-75 too. 104whp on dyno soon 2 months ago. Good even torque from low to top.

It might work better with bigger bores?

Bore the top case for bigger sleeves should have been done earlier? But who can imagine that a block with 77mm OD sleeves in need of closer to 78mm holes in case should enter?

It amazes me how quickly Yamiya ships stuff.  I broke down and got a NEW Starter Clutch gear.  I've battled the starter chatter ever since acquiring the bike.  I tried one with a re-machined face from Scottly, a used but good looking one from BillB...and replaced the springs and rollers.  No dice. Never once found the rotor bolt loose.  So unless someone knows of another culprit i'm hoping this will resolve.

Figured it was well worth the 180$ to have a new one

Hopefully will get the engine on a bench in the next weeks to tear down for case boring.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Joe

Well... Great Goog'amooga!
I just read this whole thread, after talking with Joe about one of his vids on U'tube, regarding the Mikuni RS34's.  Lots of very interesting topics along the way!
I am in the final assembly stage of a heavily modified build with an 836 kit, among other upgrades and am finding some very useful information here.  (Thank you Joe for pointing me to it)

One of the many things that caught my eye, was the mention of a remote idle adjuster for those Carbs.  Could I get a link to a reliable source for that?

As for a Twin Disc set up; I can actually help with that if you'd like.  I offer Drilled & Thinned Rotors, Phenolic Caliper Pistons and other upgrades, as separate components or as complete custom order, Twin Disc Kits.

Hey Godfrey,  I had to go back in my ebay history to see what remote idle screw I used.  Here is the description:  05 06 KAWASAKI NINJA ZX6R 636 IDLE CABLE THROTTLE ADJUSTER SCREW

I'm sure other years apply....but thats what I used.  You'll have to fab up a bracket to hook the knob to where you what to locate it.

I'll hit you up later about the brakes....I'm in car projects right now and through the summer.  Got a rebuilt engine and trans going into the 73 firebird and I've been getting this 76 Chief up to daily driver status ;) So haven't been doing a lot of bike stuff for the spring.

Cheers, Joe

Thank you, I'll look that up.

Nice Cherokee!  A good friend of mine had one of those back in the day, it sure brings back some memories.
