Trying to get to the dyno but will depend on the owner's schedule..........he supports his son on the AMA Supercross circuit.

Upon close inspection the exhaust header needed repair. Salt has taken its toll. The repaired unit now has a bung to mount the A/F annalyser along with a plug for continued use when I'm doing speed-runs...........but my backup header is now modified for use if needed.

I have spark :) :) :)

I replaced the Dyna pickups and the coils, added wiring, and instantly have fire in all 4 holes ;)

The dealer refunded the fee AND paid for the replacement parts.

I also have the IgnaTech unit almost ready to go if needed. I did the wire-harness but had to have a rotor made to adabt to the crank......very similar to the adaptation shown on YouTube as Cafe Racer CB750 in German. Hint; I melted the insulation on a wire with my heatgun........then I noticed 3 melted spots on the wires prepared by the professional tech. Proposition: Tech schools should have a pass/fail grading system. There is no room for error. Is this why you could not get on your commercial flight yesterday?

Houston, we have ignition.  ;D  Good job Dennis. Take it out and run it through the gears.

Fingers crossed for a dyno run. It would be interesting to see if your A/F unit reads like the dyno.

And good on the dealer.

I'll check the oil on the car and get a cooler ready!!!!

Watched the video of old scramblers bike firing up.  Sounds good.  Can't wait to see it at tech inspection!

Speed week is in full swing, and the heavy hitters are posting some serious speeds.
Course conditions are supporting regular 350+ mph runs.  Speed Demon rose the bar to 446!
If we have truly earned the gods of speed favor.  Then BMST is going to be one helluva party!

Looks like it's really going to happen this year.  Most of the weather apps look good for the next couple weeks.  I am totally stoked.  See you out there BomberMann, Jerry, Dennis and whoever else shows up.

I was a spectator during the 1st 4 days of Speed Week............damp salt to start but improved each day :) :)  6+Miles of good salt on the long course. The car show at the Nugget parking area is always fun.

I spent 4 days asking biker questions........Wow.........tire pressure ranged from 28 to 50-psi. Alp was providing pit-services for his customer......timid throttle control by the customer on the first runs made him shake his head as he walked away from the starting line while listening to the bike struggle on the course in mid-range :(

I will arrive on Friday AM to help set up at BMST ;D

Jerry and others.........Alp Sundergen? is a very creative vintage bike builder. He is partially sponsored by Low Brow Customs. Old Triumphs and Vincents are his forte. He has a customer (museum) that buys most of his builds. Alp is a good friend of Tom Mellor, the Vancouver guy that drives a Rolls Royce to pull his Triumph.

ALPs vincent racer ended up with a feature spot on the world of speed calendar.  The automophilia artist does a great job making all the race rigs look fantastic.!

Rumor is alp is legendary for his cowboy-esque riding postures.  Wether hes hanging off the side or turning one shoulder downwind.  Of course, this is heresay on my part.  Wether its a tall tale or he genuinely does cast a long shadow

I'll be in the crews quarters up the street.  If ya don't catch me shuttling around the pits on my touring bike, i'll definitely be lounging around at the black&white.

Alp builds his bikes with the fuel tank to the right of center which allows a rider's head to get much lower but still see the blue centerline at SCTA events. BMST does not have a centerline. Brian? from Lowbrow Customs also uses that design along with 'twisted' handlebars so he is basically hanging on the left side of the bike. After he crashed in 2021 (broken thumb) I asked him if he considered that his riding style was putting stress on the bike.........his front wheel and fork were bent and very loose. He gave me a pit-shirt and thanked me for the advice.

I try to get my helmet 'chin' down against the narrow valley between my twin-tanks while straining to see the horizen (floating mountain)

A small crew will lay out the courses and begin 'dragging' the runs and access routes early in the week..........Final markers and cones on Thursday with last minute paint-lines on Friday. Very Important Racers can pay a small fee to get preferred pit-parking and begin to set up on Friday...........I volunteer to set up race-promoter canopy frames and other general labor so I get to park 'next' to the reserved spots for no fee. I still have to wait through the line on Saturday AM..........This year my long-time (55-yrs) friend Danny will pit next-door as he will be in the Run-What-You-Brung lines with his Triumph America.

I'm still hoping for some dyno time but otherwise, plug-chops will have to do to 'see' what the Sunoco gas (EXO2) will do to the bike. I may have to go up one jet size because that blend is highly oxigenated (25% ethanol) and calls for an A/F of 13.2:1 :)

I will see you all Friday afternoon.  I think I donated a portion of last year's entry fee to the general cause and got VIR status.  The wife is super excited about not having to get in line early Saturday for a good spot, though I think I'll go out there anyway myself.  This is the earliest I have been ready, well close to ready, can't wait.

Dennis, are you running an AFR gauge on your bike?  It's cool that your old friend will be coming out.

Dennis, how much difference between the fuel when you had the bike on my dyno and the EXO2? Plug chops may not show much unless the mixture is excessively rich with oxygenated fuel, and 13.2:1 is at the lean side of the max HP AFR range. The 120 mains were too lean, 125 jets gave the previous best results. If the new fuel does require more flow, due to the increased oxygen, I would try 127.5 mains, if you have them in your kit.

Rich.........Yes to AFR but will change header for the salt so the unit will go to the box. Danny is who I sold by sandcast to back in late '71.

Scott.........122.5s are in for the 'maybe' dyno on VP-110........I have a LOT of jets ;)

My Bad............the 125s are already in ;)

The onboard AFR device would be nice to monitor things but it draws power from the battery and is mounted below the oil-pan perpendicular to the side of the collector...........its going to be 'in the salt' from the front tire and the wires are not part of the original wire-harness.......but I'm debating leaving it on for the 1st run on Sunday with the new 'gas' and no fairing.............the header can be changed in less than an hour.

This year I plan to shut the bike down after each run and coast to a stop on a turn-out route to be picked up by my crew with the 'chase' vehicle. Other years a rode the bike back to the pits..........so, fresh batteries for my radios are needed ;)

Maybe you could fit an on/off switch for the meter so it would only draw power when turned on? No need to leave it on for the full run.
Regarding ignition timing, are you going to try running 5 degrees less advance than stock? If the advancer is working properly, you can set the initial timing halfway between the T and F marks to retard the timing 5 degrees across the board.

I'll think about a switch to turn the AFR on for the 20+seconds at max speed :) :)

New Info: I have a dyno appointment on Tuesday ;D

More new info.......I will use VP MR12 for the dyno-tests and then plan to run that same gas in the FUEL classes before I switch to Sonoco EXO2 for GAS classes. They are rated almost equal and highly oxygenated :).........I will change jets again ;D.........and maybe up-size to 130s at the salt due to effective altitude above 7,000-ft. if temps remain in the 90s ;)  These fuels burn faster so setting the ignition advance with the help of the dyno should be a big benefit.

I'm getting more excited about running above 150-mph  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Higher temps cause a given jet size to act richer, not leaner. Trust the dyno; if 125s give an AFR of about 13.2 with the fuel, you should be good to go, and if not, adjust accordingly. 130 is a big jump from 125. ;)
