The forklegs are now disassembled, and the first pic shows the guts of the lowered setup.

Proceeded by removing all the race scrutineering decals as well as the black factory paint on the lower legs. Will probably sand them smooth and polish them to match the rest of the chassis, but I haven't quite decided yet.

The fourth pic shows the stock setup that is going back in, and that will make the fork 75 mm (3") taller compared to the lowered setup

I'm curious, what is your frame of reference to the drag race changes? Is there a blueprint, photos, or information from the previous owner? They did go to great lengths to make small changes that would be difficult to notice unless you knew the original very well.

A local to me flat track guy had a well-known vintage flat track bike to repair, (Champion maybe?) reportedly, before it left his shop there were two chassis jigs made off of it.

Continuous contacts by phone and by meetings in person with the builder/owner/racer, and by extensive research of photos and information online.
The fact that the bike was built by him in back in 1982, and he is the one and only owner since, is an invaluable source of knowledge.
Then again, the 43 years that has passed makes things slightly blurred even for him...
But all in all, this far every questionmark I´ve stumbled upon I´ve been able to straighten out

The stock 18" five-spoked Martin wheels were sold by the original owner many years ago and was replaced with a 17" GSXR rear wheel to allow wider rubber, and a 16" GSX1100EF front wheel to lower the front a bit more..

Decided to replace the 16" front with at 17' GSXR wheel to match the rear, and had to modify the speedo drive to center the wider wheel in the forks.

Worked out well, and the next step is to machine some adapter plates for the Brembo calipers due to the 10 millimeter bigger discs of the GSXR wheel.

As the GSXR-discs has a ten millimeter larger diameter than the Martin discs the calipers has to be relocated to fit.
And as per usual the brackets for the relocation are first made in CAD (CardboardAidedDesign)...

The CAD-part is done, now it´s a matter of finding some good material and crank them out on the mill

Ti would be cool. Other than that 6061 works OK.

The story continues...

My bike came with the Martin full fairing that has a hole for the oilcooler above the headlights.
Stumbeled on an old Martin catalogue from back in the day where pictures were shown of my full fairing as well as a half fairing without the hole for the oilcooler.

Started to search för pics of the half fairing fitted on a bike and really liked the way it sits.
As can be seen in the pics below the difference between the black (mine) and the blue one is quite big, the hole makes the screen stand up so much higher.

Found a supplier in France (naturally as its a Moto Martin...) of the correct half fairing, but as I don´t speak a word of french I had to rely on a friend and Google Translate
to get an order in.
The supplier however did not have a screen for the fairing, but my studies of pics online brought me to the conclusion that Moto Martin probably used the same screen for
most of their different fairings... so I took a chance and ordered one.

Fourteen days later the package arrived with the correct fairing in a really nice quality.
First thing to test was my screen, and yes it fitted as planned.
Second thing was to test the weight, and can be seen the weight saving will be somewhere around 4.5 kilos.
Third thing was to test it on the bike, and yes it fitted too :-)

Very happy with this aquisition: lighter weight, nicer look, a quick delivery of a quality part, and a VERY fair price at 160 USD including shipping to my door from France...
Not much to be unhappy about

Looks like a very pleasing body piece and fits your frame,etc.

Will you be able to tuck behind it without needing to slide back on the seat too much ?

if its got the original Moto Martin seat on it there ain't nowhere to slide to
