It's all east of me now, though the rain is still down for the year here and is needed.

Thanks all. I'm very greatful that I got home safe without any mishaps. I did a lot of praying that the Lord would keep me safe and the animals off the roads. He did that.

Thank you for the encouragement! High temp today will reach 6°C so I'm hoping to get out there again. I'm thinking about riding that same route in the opposite direction today. It's a great ride without many stops, I rode it yesterday in 90 minutes.

I have my favourite roads with not much traffic.
The same roads look different during the ride season. So the rides will not be exactly the same.

#22 is complete, I rode the same route as #20 & #21 but in the other direction.
It was a much better ride this way, with the higher speed limit areas and longer sweeping turns at the beginning and the tighter curves mostly in the second two thirds of the route.

At the mid point of the ride, I was stopped at the store by the lake, Sandy's, warming up my hands over the engine, and it started snowing. So I quickly and carefully made my way home, I'm sure the road was wet at its very worst though. Temp was 39F or 4C when I set out and when I returned.

#10.  I took the 750 to scope out a house for my daughter and her husband.  Since I was out on the 750, I thought about where to go that was different, to take some photos, get 100 miles in and call it a ride for this thread.  I ended up at Bonneville Point and did some cow-trailing.  The spot is named for Captain Benjamin Bonneville, who explored large areas of the west, including Utah and Idaho.  The story goes that french dudes in the party popped over the hill and saw the trees along the Boise River and started yelling "les bois, les bois" (an excitable bunch evidently), and so the name Boise was born.  Some take issue with the accuracy of the story, and at this point it doesn't matter.  The party reached this spot way back in 1833.  Part of the Oregon Trail runs near here.  The dirt road was perfect, having dried out enough so it wasn't muddy, and damp enough so it wasn't dusty, and good traction.  The 750 handled it as well as usual, even with the clapped out rear shocks -

Nice pics Greg, I'm right behind you in the ride count.

Sooooo today Sunday 11/23 I finally had a chance for my ride #8 woo-hoo!

I will start with the stats:
    Started about 11:45
Home about 8:00 pm after dinner at my daughter's house.
    Temps
         Start 74°f /23°c
         Mid trip ( lowest)  55°f /12°c
         Home 64°f /18°c

    Distance;
55 mi /88km of slab to start the fun
73 mi /117km of mountian fun
53 mi /85km to get back home
   Total 181 mi /291km

So here is how it went down. It has been raining pretty good here in So Cal and today was the 1st day in about 2 weeks that the sun was shining and the warden forgot to lock my leg weight,  so I  skidaddled. It was a beautiful day and the snow on the local mountians looked interesting  and that determined my direction. Azusa/San Gabriel canyon was the plan. From my house it is a qualifying distance just to get there, it's just a shade over 50 miles. But once you are there it is well worth the time on the super slab.

I stopped for a pic by the lower of 2 dams and was suprised to see it was about 80% full, by my guess. The last time I was up there it was empty with just a small stream running in the valley. Next I went to the East Fork of the San Gabriel River to see if the Glendora Ridge rd was open. That is an awsome and peaceful 14 mile ride over to Mount Baldy, but alas it was closed because of the recient burn in that area. So from there I went to the trail head parking area for "The Bridge to Nowhere " which i keep telling myself I will take the 5 mile ( one way) hike to see. Back in the WPA days they were going to build a road through there and built a bridge in the middle of Nowhere and a storm washed out the road to the bridge so badly they gave up that project. Somebody bought the bridge (for real) and runs a bungee jumping business at $100.00 a jump. Plus there is no access except on foot. I guess if you are stupid enough to pay a hundred bucks to jump off a bridge, then it makes perfect sense to hike 5 miles in and 5 miles out to do it. Darwin contestants if you ask me!

Next destination was Crystal Lake at the end go Azusa/San Gabriel canyon, I wanted to see if the snow was still sticking, it wasn't.  So I went in to the little general store and got some delicious and nutritious Oreo cookies because I didn't pack a snack. Shot the breeze with a guy on a Triumph Scrambler and another dude on a 450 something KTM. Finished my cookies and aimed it back down the mountian and home. I was late for a dinner invite from my daughter and son in law and being the responsible adult that I am, I texted my wife as soon as I had cell service with visions of tacos dancing through my brain I was on the 50+miles trip home. Made it only 15 minutes late, pigged out on tacos and had a nice visit with my grandson and his wife who are from Missouri for thanks giving.

So a fun ride with great weather and # 8 is in the book!

Alan
Rt121 is a good road, I was on part of it last June leaving Rick's Electrics Vintage RideIn following a friend who lead the ride of 3 of us towards his house. I think next year I'll take it to get to Rick's instead of going through Nashua and Hudson on 111.
It snowed for a few minutes at my house yesterday too, I don't think they spend any salt yet thankfully so maybe I will get my 750 out today for a few miles to warm it up so I can change the oil and filter for it's winter's nap.

Greg
The 750 has always been a good bike on dirt roads and I have often made my own path over the rivers through the brooks and the woods over the years.

You do get some interesting pictures out there in them hills.

It’s so nice to see photos along with all the rides. Prokop, jgger, Alan, ofreen, willbird, it’s getting busy around here!

In my younger days I took my dirtbike with full knobs out in a snow storm, just one time. There was 6 to 8 inches down on the pavement. I had imagined that I was going to be power sliding around corners, doing some major drifting.
But it didn’t work out that way, I dropped the bike a half dozen times before I got to the first corner. I turned around and made for home, dropped it couple more times for good measure.
Never tried riding in the snow again.  ::)

Never hurts to learn.  Well, I bet it did hurt dropping it so many times but kids are invincible.

Anyway, I will get a food pix next time,  I am sure I will be stopping at Orlean again.

#54 yesterday 11/26, 52 miles of running around on the 750 K5 to warm it up for it's winter's nap fresh oil change. It's was 55° at noon and the sun was trying to break through the clouds after the rain overnight, the roads were drying but still damp and I decided that it was probably the last chance of the season before they start spreading salt on the roads, so I spent the afternoon having fun visiting friends and riding around town before bike night.
1st stop of the afternoon was at the Station 101 for a picture and say howdy to Chip the owner.
There were 8 bikes that showed up for bike night for this late season warm evening.
I stayed until until @6:30 as my blood sugar was getting low and my stomach was growling from not having lunch, so I put my gear back on, it was starting to shower again and the roads were wet so I'll have to wash the bike this weekend in the cold. I drained the oil and dropped the filter when I got back to the shop before heading upstairs to fix a salad and something to eat.
It was a great afternoon and evening of riding and visiting friends. Had to show pictures of the trip to everyone at the Station.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Today I'll be going over to my mom's and sister's for the dinner celebration this afternoon.

Hey Kevin.  We used to screw sheet metal screws into our tires and then flat track at a local track.  Biggest problem was having the carb freeze up!  I bounced much better back then too.....

You will regret the bikes you DIDN'T buy much more than the ones you DID!!!  It's never too late to start a new adventure!

Great rides, and great pics guys, well done! It's been a really busy week for me, flew to Queensland (Mount Tambourine) for my son's wedding reception on Saturday, flew back Sunday.

Monday promised to be nice, so I did an oil and filter change on the Kawasaki ZZR1100. Mine has centre stand mounts, but no centre stand (probably due to the aftermarket 4-1-2 exhaust system) so Spotty had dropped off some race stands (and a guitar!) when he came over to feed my cats on Saturday night. It was easy enough to get the big black bike up on the race stand to do the oil and filter change, and I was very happy that the oil that came out was almost as clean looking, as the oil that went back in! Unlike a lot of sports bikes, access to the sump plug and filter cover is easy, with no requirement to remove fairing panels.

Once I changed the oil and filter I thought it was a good idea to lube the chain, and happily discovered that it has a new DID chain and new sprockets. I used some adhesive chain grease. Not specifically for motorcycles, but all I had in my garage, and so I just fired the big ZiZR up, put it in gear and sprayed the gluey grease on the chain. unlike a lot of chain lubes I've used, there was no pool of lube on the concrete afterwards. I went to wipe some overspray off the rim, but this stuff is so sticky, that I couldn't just wipe it off with a shop towel I had to use engine degreaser. I finished everything, then had to take my car off to do some errands.

I came back around 3pm, and thought, "Fcuk it, I want to go for a ride". Now 3pm on a Monday in Melbourne is not the best time to go for a ride, because the mum's (Mom's) in their SUV's are out picking up their kids from school and I have to pass 3 schools to get out of the 'burbs, then of course the freeway was clogged with cars and semi-trailers clogging the roads at walking pace, so I had to use the emergency lane where I could sneak around the cagers, who weren't at all happy with me "Jumping the queue", even though the traffic jams were created by 4 and 18 wheelers, not motorcycles. Anyway, I finally managed to get off the "freeway" and onto my favourite "B" roads, and away, to a degree, from the madding crowds.

The big Kawasaki was running fine, but the heat generated by the stop-start traffic was annoying it, and every now and then would activate it's thermatic fan and blow a burst of hot air at me, in protest. Once away from the huddled masses though, it was in it's element, and cruised along at slightly illegal speeds (not as fast as I've been on it before, too many kids around) and just enjoyed riding along on a warm sunny day. Because I had left quite late, I cut the ride short (60 miles) but was happy that the return ride was so much less congested and had a lovely ride home. For the rest of the week I've been cutting down trees and really pushing my new brush cutter to it's limits in an effort to clear 34 years worth of debris around my fence line, in anticipation of having new fences put up next week. I'm happy to report that I dropped 5-6 trees with no injuries to myself, except I may have heat seized one of my several chainsaws, from working it too hard. Hopefully I'll be able to fix it, it's just an old "Solo" that I picked up at a swap meet a few weeks ago, but is much lighter than my "Echo" which also did a great job, but is bloddy heavy compared to the Solo.

But I digress. Ride # (no idea) was great, and I'm looking forwards to many more before the year is out. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
