Hello duster.  March. 27, 2005 for me, having been on the old mailing list before that.  Crazy how fast time has gone by.

Hi,
My profile is from August 23 2009, a few days before my CB750 K6 got home to my garage. It had been stored in barns since September 1990.
I started to work on it then. Pulled engine to see how it looked like inside.

I had a log-in on the old forum. I think it was around 2003. I remember that Mike Rieck was there. He had a ported head with Manley valves for sale ;)

Wow!
Had you not mentioned it, I would not have noticed it's been over 20 years for me, too!
March 26, 2005 for me.
I've been preoccupied the past 12 years and haven't commented much, but soon I will be reunited with my bikes and tools so I hope to be more active here.

Somewhere near there for me: I remember when the Greenspun forum was captured and the new format came out, too. I was a lurker for about 2 years first, looking to see how civil this place was. Online arguments are a waste of time, IMHO. The moderators here beat all others I know, except on some of the shooting forums where they are ALMOST as good.

Hey Dusterdude! Congratulations! Seems like yesterday ;)

As for me I joined in 1999 on the sohc.dorje mailing list (members used to have numbers from when they joined like Rene and Marion van Maanen Netherlands Europe SOHC #252 sohc4@dorje.com -Rene is a great guy who gave up his printer job with HP to run a vintage SOHC business ) which preceded the Greenspun forums and I followed ever since. Also met one of the original founders (Liz from Boston) when they had a written log they passed around! Amazing group and I have learned so much over the years and met so many great people through this forum  8)

Huge thanks to Glenn Stauffer who has kept it all going all these years! I believe Glenn and John Soliday first started it back in 1994.

For those who want to look back at the old members posts:

Archives for the Greenspun forum are here:

and the dorje email list archive is here:

http://www.mail-archive.com/sohc4@dorje.com/

I was andy750@excite.com on that email list, TT was Llyod Oliver, Bob W was Bob Wessner., Steve CB500F was a regular...lots of familiar names.

Just bumping the thread here..to see who else may post..

Joined the forums in 2007 myself.  Haven't posted nearly as much as most old timers here..
But check on what's being posted almost every day..just to see what's happening.

Hope the site continues in the future [as # of posts seems to have dropped-off markedly
in recent years ?]..

Cheers to all here..and looking forward to the SOHC4 site continuing for many years to come

Coming up to 18 years for me. Joined in August 2007 when I found my KO, but I was a member in 1999 when I bought back my K7 from a friend and rebuilt the carbs with the help from this forum. Don't recall my member name or P/W from then, but that K7 ran better than when I had it new. Congrats to all you 20 year members!!!

I thought that, too, but I've discovered that more than 80% of those who contact me off-forum (via SOHCshop.com or someone sharing my contact info outside this forum) have been lurkers for VERY long times, some over 10 years, without a single post. It seems that they use their phones more than their computers, and the task of typing well with a handheld phone is more than onerous. So, they read often, but don't write very much.

Interesting explanation Mark.  I'm still pretty much 'old school' myself..technologically speaking.  So do all of my SOHC4 browsing on my old laptop.  This website is apparently also somewhat 'old school'..I'm told.  In any event..I still enjoy reading the posts that others make..etc.
BTW: Also share your sentiments about how the 'political landscape' of Colorado has changed over past decade or so.  Will be happy if we can
get back to a more centrist approach to things pretty soon here [like after the next election]..but not holding my breath on that one.  Thankfully I go to Japan to stay for months @ a time nowadays..where things seem noticeably more moderate both politically and socially [also have some great bike stuff over there too LOL]

I have no doubt that is true.  But I am not inclined to make it easier for them by sticking my head in the noose.  Besides the privacy concerns, it irks me that they take our data and sell it making money from it.  We should get a cut since it is ours, n'est-ce pas? ;D

The data many guys have added to the SOHC forums, learning by doing the hard way must be worth a lot!

Add an AI search engine that can create books about service, restore, modify, more power etc in a few minutes.

I sometimes get thoughts about "free" apps and what they will gather.
Chinese shopping sites apps are known to collect data from the user.

I paid not much for a lifetime license for Tapatalk when they had that option.
