Metal/Tank Guru's Help!!!
« on: March 03, 2010, 12:39:12 PM »
my tank was gummed up bad, so I did this:

now the tank is super clean, but develops pinholes that turn my tank into a gas sprinkler. 4 times so far. wife is not so happy about this. I've patched so far with jb weld, any other suggestions? any kind of sealant from the inside of the tank?

Short of welding all the pin holes, your best bet is to use a liner.

Do a search for Por15 or Caswell plating have a good one.

I have used Kreem several times with good results but alot of people don't like it.

Whatever you use it's all in the prep and following the directions to the letter.

The longer you let the liner cure the better, give it a week and then re-coat if need be.

I have just done my tank in this. It is great, but the liquids do need to be stored in a warmish environment before use or else it is difficult to swill around the tank. Make sure you drain the tank of all residue. 1 kit is enough to give the tank 2 coats. It is like rock hard glass inside my tank now. It is available in the US and the UK. Instructions are available on this web site. Discovered it in Cafe Racer Magazine. It is good for fibreglass tanks also.

Follow the instructions to the letter as just about everyone that I know that has had an issue with any sort of tank liner has either taken a short cut or failed in following the directions.

Big tip for ya:  Make sure when you tackle the job allow yourself lots of time.  It is time consuming.
