moving to Rochester NY need info
« on: August 27, 2007, 12:41:34 PM »
Just got a job in rochester and was wondering (for those that live or did live up there) what areas of rochester are nice and ones i should stay away from.  I plan on renting for awhile so any input would be great.  It's not a far move since it is only 3 1/2 hous from were i live now but i have no idea of that area.
thanks Bob

The further from downtown the better.

I live about 25 miles west.  It's nice out here!

Where will you be working?

Be careful up there, I hear that bigfoot was spotted in town last week.

Actually, your riding season may be a bit shorter up there.  My friend Dave lived in Rochester for ten years.  He left a good job so that he could find better weather.

The riding season shouldn't be much shorter than were I'm at now but The winters will be much worse (lots and lots of snow).

X-country skiing should be good.  ;D

When I was a boy, my uncle Sy was a professor there and city manager.  I always enjoyed our visits.  Personally, I think the close access to Canada is an added benefit.

Good luck with the new job!

There are lots of great roads in western new york.  The rumors of snow are just to keep the pansies out.  I commute to Buffalo and have never missed a day due to weather.  Two years ago My son rode all winter, of course we all do stupid things when we're young.  My bikes are locked up for the winter, but you can usually squeeze riding in until the end of November or early December, and then start sometime in March.  It's not as bad as the rumors would lead you to believe, and just makes the riding season something to look forward to.
