they were dirt cheap , 96 bucks for the pair 117 after shipping
here's where i got them  http://www.ridedirect.com/search_tires_by_size.html

so all the shops by me wanted around 120 bucks to mount and balance both .. witch sounded ungodly high to me ..

so i watched some youtube vids on the subject , and did it myself ... mounting was not that hard, but had it moments ... balancing them was a true test in patience tho   ;) oh man , that took all freakin day .  i've got the front one perfect, and rear is close enough that i didn't notice it at 90mph earlier today , so i'm good there

had to reorder my jets cuz they went to the wrong place .. should have those soon .... now...... you may have noticed ....... that .. my uh .. license plate says .... 2002  yeeeah thats whats next ;D ;D ;D ;D (it's an old one off the honda i had mounted on the wall)

so after tubes ,wheel weights and my carb jets i'm now at $617  ;D ;D

Great job there and saving a bit by doing it yourself, always feels better, even IF you have your moments.  8)    I KNOW full well that there might be times that you wished someone else had done whatever it is, but in the end, it helps to be ale to do things to the bike.

LOL, I hadn't notice the year on the plate. Sounds like Me.  ::)    ;)

I joined this site just so I could tell you what a great job you did on this. I like all the small touches you did on this bike. That kind of individual attention is what really makes a bike special.

ok .. hello again fellas

yes , you absolutely can build a bike for just over 500 bucks .

now that we've done that . let's upgrade it a bit .. cuz i must confess .. i kinda miss winning trophies

i've got some big plans for this winter....  so stay tuned

for now , a little teaser

....i had no idea making clip-ons was this much work

had one of the lathe operators at work spin the bigger pipe to a 36.5mm ID .
..this is (was) heavy grade tubing , not cold rolled .. so there was no seam, it's just all one piece
                        ...still with me?   ok then

a lil bevel goess a long way

this is why you're not suppose to wear chucks and weld

(a spare front end i have, used for mock up)

and the tank ... guess i can show ya these too  ;)

it's still pretty far from done .. but you can get the point

the side pieces are the case of a dvd player i found in the trash  ;D ;D

welded on some 1/8th inch round bar

i've always had a thing for bonnies, this tank is kind of a nod to the old bonnie tank

RR, you raise a fine point .. with the new tank , there isn't enough bare metal on it to keep the same paint scheme , there's body filler in too many spots to do it proper ..   soooo .. i gotta give it a paint job ..    i've been kickin around many ideas , but i haven't settled on one yet . i'd like to put some metal flake in there   possibly , but i'm not sure ..this bike isn't really suited for the flashy stuff

     1. same design , but everything bare metal gets painted silver, the green gets painted metal flake, and the black stays black

     2.  same design,  bare metal gets painted metallic red,  green get painted metal flake silver, black stays black

     3.   satin black , with a small amount of metal flake grey highlights, and hotrod pinstripes everywhere

     4. something way cooler that i haven't thought of yet

this time around i wanna do something really special for the paint , something i've never done .. i just don't know what ..

i just gotta stare at it for a bit i think  ;D ;D

ok so i gotta post some of these pics before i get too behind .. i like to wait until i have a bunch to post, but i haven't felt much like dealing with the upload process (very poor bandwidth at this new apartment)

so lets get started then

there is no way i'm bringin my fancy camera to work in the steel shop , so all the low res pics were done with my phone

the last time i made one of these , i had several members want me to make them one .. until i said i want 120 bucks. then it was nothin but tumbleweeds
...so i wanna show the group just how much work goes into a piece like this

these started as a 3/8ths inch plate , then was drilled and shaped

when twisting and bending , if the metal gets too hot it will loose it's shape

after a little die grinder love

this is how the ends were attached

(i thought i took a pic of them welded on but i can't seem to find it )

i used the old headlight ears to get it mocked right (made it way easier than last time)

(nice healthy gap to fill)

and i made this about a month ago and forgot to snap any pics of it

(i just love makin the twisted stuff.. it's fun...and totally badass)

I love that tank.  Love it.    The rib/spine down the middle is classic.

With all the metal work to it and the bars, pegs etc...   I'm not really sure where you are going, but it really has a vintage/unusual/industrial feel to it.
My first thought was a two-tone of some sort - not really with metal flake - more of a solid period color.    Dark blood red, maroon maybe ?
That tank is just begging for scallops and pinstripes...begging.     Dark blood red, black scallop, off-white pinstripe - anything you put on there will look good.

I don't know if I paint any of the metal/scrolling ?       That metal color works well with that green that you have on there.... paint kinda hides the craftsmanship or the DIY feel of it.

I'm stumped.    can't wait to see what you end up with.    Should be a real fun bike.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.
