LED ZEPPELIN!
« on: December 17, 2007, 05:54:39 PM »
Did I miss any of the big ones?

The recent London Zeppelin reunion concert inspired this.
I was a HUGE Zep fan. So cool to see them rocking on even today.

Well, to this GHOF there was only one band of the '60s.....that would be the Beatles.

How could I ever rate Zeppelin over Floyd or vise versa?????  Both are responsible for the progressive rock of today.

Two you are missing in the poll is Queen and Thin Lizzy!  Both are awesome.

This poll just isn't fair.  Now I want to go home go into the garage and crank 70's ROCK all day and gaze at my Hot Rod.

Yes, the list could go on. What about Wishbone Ash??

Perhaps this poll should have been divided into '60s and '70s separately.....

I am a drummer and John Bonham is the father is modern rock dumming. Before him, drummers were the "nobodys" of a band and were never in the spotlight. They had tiny 4 piece sets and rarely even did a snare much less a god-like drum solo. Led Zeppelin hit the scene and all that changed. Bonham was explosive and turned people's heads with his powerful and in your face drumming. Forever bringing drummers forward and producing people like Neal Peart, Vinnie Paul, Joey Jordison, and Trey Cool. Take a listen to Mody Dick and you will know what I am talking about.

Led Zeppelin - greatest band ever!

I think we should take your favorite ten, then add up points!!!

Nothing wrong with the drum solo on  En  A Gadda Da Vida, that I can find!1.. I only listen to it cranked up about 40 times since last summer..

Rocker said "....John Bonham is the father of modern rock dumming..."

Now yer talkin. And Jimmy Page knew that Bonham was key to their sound. He spent tremendous time and care on recording the drums. And the intro to Whole Lotta Love---first guitar, then bass, then vocal all building up to the crescendo of the drum entrance. Then it's the drums that drive and push that simple lick and carry along all the vocal and guitar acrobatics and keep it anchored in HEAVINESS.
I aint' a drummer, but I'm a bass player and I really value a good drummer and Bonham really had no equal--not even close.

Haven't really heard any of the boy's stuff ----does Jason have his Dad's chops?

Ginger Bakers drum solo on 'Do what you like' (Blind Faith, the LP 1969) wasn't shabby, either.

Not that I have anything against Zeppelin, but I have to side with AC/DC. There's just something a little more raw about them (at least the early stuff).

My roomate plans on camping out 2 weeks early so he can get his Led Zeppelin tickets.

The Doors were great too but were more like a drug-induced coma compared to Zeppelin's kick in the crotch rock riffs. The Doors had Morrison and that is what made them stand out from all the other "make love not war" bands of their time.

what about the Doors?

My point was they had ABBA on the list but not the Doors?!?!? lol...Not exactly what I would call kick in the crotch riffs...maybe other things to do with crotches though...lmao.

It took longer than I expected for someone to notice my little ABBA joke.  ;D
What's not to like about a band with two hot Swedish girls? ...oh, their music---right.

I liked the Doors---owned most of their albums. Particular songs were among the best of 60's Rock ---LA Woman, Riders on the Storm, Love me Two Times and others. Quite a bit of filler though, on most of their albums.

Well it is late 70s but no one has mentioned diamondhead. Awesome british metal band!

As for drummers, Yeah I would have to go with Dan Zimmerman from Gamma Ray. After Dan,my response is "who's john bonham?"

Actually I assumed it wasn't a joke...rather, it was put there for Terry's sake! Wasn't one of their big hits "Dancing Sheep"....oh wait it was Dancing Queen....oh well still fitting! lol...

While all of those (except ABBA) are among my favorites, I'm going to have to go off the board and pick Rush. I know, big surprise.  ;)

I also loved Boston, Styx, Blue Oyster Cult, ....
