All going into the back yard.  A fence(for the new puppy we got last Sept.) and whatever is left over I hope to use on some patio work.

dad owes some ridiculous multiple thousand number  :'(  they got thrown into the next bracket, i feel bad for them.

i don't owe anything since i just officially got the business up in october... not enough income to make a difference to the man w/ two partners 50/50.

sh!tty thing is we made just below the amount we needed collectively to receive the gov't "gift".   >:(

starting this business is hard and we've been at it for a few years now... i'm just happy to be turning profit.  (barely)  i charge an hourly rate, usually, and my problem is i'm too honest and don't milk it.  combine that w/ my laziness and you get a fulltimer making part time wages.  all by myself most of the time and i still can't just say i was there for 8 hours when in all actuality... i WAS there for 8 hours  ;)

I did the whole electronic-filing direct-deposit thing and got my refund 4 days after filing.  Started a new job halfway through the year so they withheld taxes based on my bracket if I had worked the whole year, but since i only worked half a year they withheld way too much.  $1800 return and I paid off my credit card (mostly bike parts).

Well new patio door and front door. Then a bike jack and infrared temp gauge and maybe a spray gun. A pair of overpants for riding and good riding shoes.  Some shingles too and a ladder. I got a busy spring coming up.

"TAX RETURN" is not in the vocabulary of the British Government.
Now if you had said TAX HIKE or INCREASE, the idiots running (sorry that should be RUINING) Britain would be your friends for life. >:( :'(

Our refund just got direct-deposited into the checking account.  I'll probably let it sit there for a day or two so I can pretend that I'm going to spend it on something fun before doing the responsible thing and paying down the credit card. :'( :'(

I'll be using it to pay my ever increasing local taxes... property taxes to the county, the local municipality, and the school district; income taxes to the state, the feds, and the county.  And a 'head' tax to the municipality where I work.  So, for me, this is just a federal funds transfer to the local governments.
Even if it frees me from paying all of these local taxes myself, I won't be spending any more money than I had planned to anyway.  I might feel better about this whole thing if this was the distribution of a Govt surplus, but it is more like getting a cash gift from a broke aunt who you know you're going to have to help take care of later anyways.

If I don't have to pay more than $2K above my maxiumum withholding it is a good year.

Property taxes, new specs, home improvements (due $3500). If I get the gift money, that will go on the bikes! There is always something that needs doing. Just got the pickup inspected and tagged and then the front brakes went out on the Z28! No doubt something will go on one of the bikes next, that's life.

At least brakes are cheap for the most part. Especially on older cars.

How do you people pay your income tax? My employer takes and pays my income tax to the government depending on how much I earn each month as a percentage of what I earn, so I never have too pay more than I should and I never get any back! (I’m in the UK)

Cheers

we fill out a form called a w4,on that we can declare our tax witholding status.we can declare single or married and how many deductions we will use to determine how much money is withheld from our paychecks.some folks have more taken out of their check so they can get a refund at the end of the year and spend it on stuff they want to buy.we also can declare how much mortgage interest we paid during the year and we can also declare other items that also helps bring our taxes owed down in our favor.

It' s my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I lived like a pauper so they could keep my $ for a year.

Now they are giving it back to me without interest.

I am going to spend it (my $) on, mortgage, food, gas, electricity, sales tax, property tax, life insurance, child tuition, dental, unexpected expenses ect ect.

Death and taxes; the only things you can be sure about.

No Dave its the same (having experienced both). In the US you get less take-home pay but a no-interest "bonus" at the end of the tax year when they give you your overpaid taxes back (assuming as duster pointed out you dont owe them taxes!). In the UK you get more to take home and dont get the "bonus". I must admit it does FEEL better getting over-paid taxes back once a year...

cheers
Andy
