Wood Project.....another boat?
« on: March 02, 2008, 08:43:22 PM »
My latest in home build idea.
My wife works down at the boat yard on-Island and one day last fall came across an old wooden canoe.  She made some enquiries and found she could have it for $50.00 ;D

Our Idea was to cut it in 1/2 and make a set of shelves.  Called my favorite carpenter, asked him to fit in some shelves and clean up the bow area as they were completely rotted out. "JUST TO BE CLEAR" This boat was never going to float again!

He did a great job, charged me $50.00 and today I did a final sand and stained one end..........one end of the boat ;D

I think the 1st one has turned out great. Just got to love to see an idea come through to the end and be happy. ;D

P.S. It is birch and was made by "Master Craft" My guess is mid 50s-early 60s

One end before stain.
If you look in the background you can get some scale on how the 2nd photo below fits in the vaulted ceiling area easily.

Finished

There's no accounting for taste I suppose ;D

That looks really good.  You have to have the right kind of house for it...which you do.  That would look terrible in my house.

Thanks for the nice comments ;D

You would think the guys at the wooden boat school next to the yard thought I was cutting a 69K0 in 1/2. Boy were they pissed when they heard what I did to it. ;D ;D ;D

I do understand their passion for restoration though.

cool

where does the sohc 4 engine go?

It's in the wall.  It lifts the canoe up to reveal a secret door.
