I could try..... Mating compound curves in a one piece shape will be kinda difficult.

Well are they stock fittings? If so I have a stock tank I could cut up.

I only torch weld on fenders and tanks so it might take me a while. I like to be able to see what I'm doing.

havoc, i have an old 450 rear fender that fits perfectly. i think a nice thick sheet on the bottom to protect it from road debris would work.

Come up with dimensions, maybe some mount points, or just give me a space to work with on the fender itself, no problem.

im gonna cut the fender down and size it up in the frame. i can trace up some templates and mail em with the fender.
i'll figure out some mounting tabs and tape them to the fender with some drawings.
you got a ballpark # of what this will cost?

Nah we'll figure it out as we go along. Long as that's ok with you. I'm cheap.

hey, maybe we should have a Fabrication Thread

You know for parts that we actually make, or try to make or major intensive mods.

This stuff tends to get lost in the project threads, where a lot of it is bought stuff and bolted on or fitup is with relatively minor mods.

I sorta feel it would be easier to have all the creative metalworking (& other materials) seperate and easier to access than looking for specific pages of a build. Maybe get a few more interested in building their own parts..

Seems like a good idea to me.
It may explain to a few people why some things seem so expensive.
Material/parts may be relativity cheap but labor involved (even as a 'hobby') can be prohibitive if someone want a 'one off'
I was asked to make a single points set up for XS650, made one using a Honda ATD which fitted inside stock covers. (made 5 actually but only one was 'production quality')
It will be better and more reliable than the stock Yamaha
Even at $150.00 I wasn't breaking even.
I still have it and will use it on one of my own motors.

i'm in on this idea , i also have a bunch of photo's from when i dished my tank , and notched my frame. there in my build thread. but i agree that having them all in the same place would benifit the group

Maybe put up some standard fabrication for specific items.

Like Spikey's filter mod.
Or standard tank dish templates.

Can you just start a FAQ thread with in depth details on the tank dishing.

After I drooled over your bike I went out to find a "practice tank" it should be here by the end of the week so any info I can get before the first blow would be appreciated

I would also like to see a fab/paint&body thread.I work at an auto repair shop and while I have access to alot of hi tech tools and equipment,we don't do any fab or welding.Most shops I worked at in the past did and I miss it.I also don't have a garage as of yet so I would probably have to have someone else put my "idears" together and pay them for it.
The first project I would like to see is plates for rear pegs/exhaust on an early K model after the stock exhaust is traded in for 4to1.I don't mean rear sets......I mean passenger pegs. I still after 3 years have a mickey mouse bracket holding my Kerker can and my centerstand stop.I want to design plates that will look good and allow some adjustment for pipe mount and footpegs.
Anyways.....due to the effects of the sh!t economy....the stuff I wanted to do to my bike this winter is totally backburner......for now!!!

A customer asked me to make this alloy tank and seat for his cb550.

Lines of the tank was inspired by organic curves of a dolphin body mixed with parametric curves, and the seat inspired by the dolphin's fin. Hence the name Dolphin tank and seat combo or the pinas550
