Quite well actually. I have trimmed the patch down to 5 pumpkins, going for BIG........

These 2 are both 2 ft in diameter.

This is the big one, almost 3 ft in diameter 8)

unfortunately the colchicine can also kill your ass when you put it onto plants. my brothers best friend died back in the 70's after smoking colchicine treated plants. bad news that stuff. for really large plants i dissolve one birth cntrol pill per gallon of hot water.

Colchicine (gout med) mixed in solution can cause marijuana to mutate. You dip the plants in it right after the seeds germinate. I wonder what this might do for pumpkins?
How do you roll and smoke a pumpkin ???  ;D

SW - being farther north, Gabriola should have more daily growing hours than California..

PAMPERED PUMPKIN PICKED AS PLUMPEST OF THEM ALL
Published: Tuesday, October 14, 2008 | 6:47 AM ET
Canadian Press: THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - Thad Starr's giant pumpkin really began putting on weight in August - a lot of weight.

The pumpkin gained about 30 pounds a day on its way to victory Monday at the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-off in Half Moon Bay.

Thad Starr, of Pleasant Hill, Ore., tips his hat after winning in the World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off. Starr's pumpkin finished at a record 1,528 pounds (693 kg). Starr won last year with a pumpkin that that was four pounds lighter and also set a record.

Starr, of Pleasant Hill, Ore., bought a trailer to transport the pumpkin. It has a circumference of 15 feet.

He says his secret to growing big pumpkins is good soil: "We really pamper them."

Didn't see the need to start a new thread, 2009 season planting was done today with seads from last years harvest.
Still not early enough, but 5 weeks earlier than last year ;)

A little side humor to get "me", "us"  through the summer ;D

I'll see if I can scrounge up some "pumpkin" for the road trip so you won't be lonely  ;D

Bribe/threaten Mariah  ;)  I don't think it will work with the wife. She'll be pissed at you, me AND Newc. Just the way they are for the first few long road trips. For me now it's "when are you leaving?!!" I think she has figured out she should look forward to 2-3 weeks of freedom.

Yup. Mix it in bulk.

I can either fill water cans or hook up to soaker hoses buried under patch for a slow  4 hour drip ;D
