Does any one give a Crap about my shop / garage build?
« on: June 14, 2008, 10:28:30 PM »
If so I'll keep adding.

I started designing my new garage a few months ago. Finally came up with what I thought would look esthetically nice on the property as well as function well for what I need.  The area it is to be built on is the road side of the lot and nothing had been done to that area since building the house. Building permit should be coming through in 2 weeks, hope to have the forms built by that time ;D  I'll leave you with the before & after shots of the excavation.  :o :o :o :o

That's not just plants, there was many, many dump trucks.
That's a sh*t load of dirt!

2 from side driveway.

3 North facing over a week.

Sweb,

In an earlier life, I built a large garage for my stuff.
Very exciting time !
I remember spending most of one day just walking around on the concrete slab
imagining various vehicle positions.
--Good luck!

That's great that you are able to do that. Looks like you'll have a great place to put your bikes and to build on them! 8) If I had nice place to put mine and to work on them in, my wife would know where she could always find me! :D I'd probably need a place for a bath room, a bed and such, for when I was in the "dog house"! ;D  ;) Always god to see someone who is able to have a nice place to do their thing in. :)

                                 Take care, Bill ;)

I'll be reporting to everyone on this Derek. I look forward to seeing it around 8/22. Is that when the party is  ;) Should I bring a hammer or just beer? I think thats a really classy idea - building the CHROME MONSTER it's own garage.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Yes permit came in 2 weeks early.

This whole thing about getting up at 7:00 and working all day has my body in an uproar :o Hit the hot tub tonight for the 1st time in a while.

I have given the carpenter a branch to reach for..........if he can get the forms built for less than 2 grand including wood & labour I will give him the difference ;D  I think he may just get a $300.00-$500.00 bonus on this part alone.

Boat rides may not always cut it, although he did have a hoot yesterday after work. ;D

P.S. to answer a question from earlier,  the shop will be 24 x 24 with an open ceiling. A 1/2 loft space above one side for overhead storage.  I designed it to be a mini version of my house.
Dormers, triangular widows etc.

Room for the boat on one side and bikes on the other.

You are living my dream man!

My dream garage has a loft space looking down on the workshop.  In the loft, I would have a living area with a plasma TV, fridge, vented grill.  Oh....and and fire pole to get down quick when I get inspired to work on a bike...which is always.

I don't know about the firepole but otherwise, I think you hit the nail right on the head.  Sounds like a pretty good mancave to me.  I looked at a house a few months ago that had a loft in the garage.  I was imagining pretty much the same thing.

I have always had my bike shop in the house, and will continue to use that in house area  for some bike work.
This was really needed due to my salt water climate. 3 nice SOHC's sitting under the deck all winter and running out of room to work on the Tracy. ..........and I wasn't going to put that bike under the deck when it is finished.

RxmanGriff was correct when he said earlier " I think thats a really classy idea - building the CHROME MONSTER it's own garage."> ;D

I've been saving my money for 2 years for this ;D ;D ;D   Quite exciting really.
It was over 100 here today!!!!!!   Been in the trenches since day one :-\

Here's a shot this evening with a flash.
