FFJMOORE 78 CB750f first bike sold it.

In the beginning there was.....



Here is how it looked when i sold it! 3-31-11


I bought this bike not running. They said it need at battery and had sat for 2 years.
So far i have changed the oil, stripped down the carbs and put them back together. When i slapped them back on Wa la. It ran. So i put some air in the flat tires and rode it up and down the street.

 It ran good as far as i could tell. its the only bike i have, nothing to compare it to. So back in the shop it went, tires are off waiting for some Dunlop404s( be in on Thurs). While I'm waiting I'm going to try and figure out how to replace the fork seals. There is oil all over the shock and the front calipers.

I'm also going to replace the break pads and drive chain while the tires are off.
Well is there any other stuff i need to do to make the bike road worthy or things i should do before i start riding it?

This is kinda what im going for. I also have a set of drag bars in the mail.

my neutral light and oil light dont ever come on. I think this is the neutral switch right?
But where is the oil switch?

I read all the FAQ i could find on removing fork seals, boiling, 2" clamp, pry none of it worked.So i went and got a seal remover. it said it "works every time". Well the seal came out and now i need a new fork bottom.

WORKS EVERY TIME


I figured out why my neutral and oil light don't work. The black wire that runs from the headlight bucket to the lights had come apart so that will be an easy fix.

That's the culprit. I got the second one out ok but the inside still has some cuts in it so im going to go to the junkyard and get some replacments. Whats a fair price for a set of used shocks?

got my brake pad and fork seals from HONDA today. For $40+ you would think you were getting a set of pads front and rear. at least thats what i thought. But from HONDA you only get one. What a rip! and why would they think i only needed 1 pad. I hate my local honda shop already.

I got the new tires on and blead the brakes. Finaly got my real first ride. I have new pads chain and handlebars on the way. Here is my   first ride!

Took its first 150 mile ride today. Lots of chain noise. hopefully a new chain will help that.
Oh and i got a new seat!

Wow that seat's made a difference.. nice. And well done on bringing it back to life.
Be worth checking the Comstars over, the rivets can be loose from corrosion. Depends on the climate and history somewhat but worth a look.

the bike is in the shop getting synced while its in i painted my badges. My tank is now a flat black rattle can. didnt turn out to great but i think if i sand it down alittle and throw on a fresh coat it will even out. Anyway ill post somepics when i get it back. Here are tha badges. I think they look good on the black tank.

well i got my bike back and the mechanic says its the best running F hes seen in a long time. Im going to re-do my compresion test because i dont think i did it right and the numbers were probabaly low because of the quality of gauge i am using. I took a look at my vales frome the adjuster holes and they looked ok to me. I dont really know what im looking for but the had oil on them and they look flat and not mushroomed. heres a pic.

so i think i just might have one of the good running F motors.(knocks on wood) The carb sync took a lot of vibration out of the bike as well as quieting down the exhaust. and runs much smoother at idle. Im slowly collecting parts and then ill hopefully do a teardown this winter to powdercoat the frame and clean things up for a new seat and tank.
