ewwww! Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone on the flat black comment! That wasn't my intentions at all if it sounded that way. I actually love the look, but even in Akron, Ohio, where a cafe bike might still be a rare bird, I see a couple in matte, flat or satin black running around. I just have this need to be different! I think Plaid is certainly that!

Thanks for those of you who have supported the idea...I'd still love some obnoxious and rude comments too...where all friends here!  :)

What you said didn't sound offensive, and I was trying not to in my post.   I really do like the flat black look, just tired of it I guess.

I asked in another thread but I don't think you saw it...

What kind of VW did you "used to luv"?

haha...just wanted to be sure!

I've had way too many vdubs...currently a 275 bhp gti with 22lbs of boost..its a time bomb!

Overall a gear head...miata with a 302, older golf with a 260 bhp g 60 swap..next..an 82 cx500 turbo gone cafe!

...how about an update on the tank. The tank is structurally finished. I started with a CB350f tank and grafted in the filler from a 900RR. Just wanted something different. Its going out to get sealed and coated internally. Once back, I'll decide if I'm going through with the plaid or just going to paint her...its all a matter of time. Will she be done before Vintage Days at Mid-Ohio?

That looks RAD!  I might do something like that with the 350f tank I have.  How does the 350F tank fit on the twin?

could i trouble you for a closeup shot of your clip-ons?
i believe i have the same Dunstalls to install on my build, never knew what those little bent pieces of bar were for. i hope the application of them does not make steering uncomfortable at highway speeds...thought they were for race setup?!

great work! hope you (and I) make it to mid-OH...i really need to get on putting a build page together, ugh

The 350F tank fits pretty well from the get go. I actually added a 12mm poly urethane block under the rear mount to lift it a little more flat so the line across the bottom of the tank and my cafe seat was straight. I think currently its just a quick fix and in the fall I will actually move the front mounts up 1/2" or so, but that sounds like real work I don't have the time for this season.

I'll take a pic of my clip ons in a few days. the bike is at a machine shop having the rear sets fitted on.  ;D CAN'T WAIT TO POST THOSE PICS!

After looking at every stock set I could find, I just decided that anything I get will have some fab work (or a lot!) so I ended up buying the Tarozzi ones that fold up from Fast From The Past. They were $169.00.

My fab guy is a wizard. We have a couple good ideas. Having a full machine shop with CNC and 10 years making parts for the department of defense, I'm confident things will turn out right! For clearance issues, we might make a detachable kick start with a longer base that mounts (when not needed) under the seat pan. Completely out of site.

I'll post some pics as soon as we get things ironed out.

NEW UPDATE:

I know I got some compliments on the black exhaust, but while wandering about my local scrap yard, I found a very nice cl350 exhaust and was able to pick it up for VERY cheap. I think this will help with the mounting of the rearsets in a big way! I spend last night bead blasting it and tonight doing some sanding before shooting it black as well.

I wanted to ask you guys...what color on the 3 heat shields? The chrome was too pitted to save. Glossy black? Matte black or body match (when I decide)...?

I like this idea and I think painting the heat shields to match the body or the engine color would really set it off.

A quick grainy pic from the crackberry...But the scrambler exhaust is shot black and installed and my tarozzi rear sets are reasting in place. There will need to be a little machining done to make them sit right where I want.

20 days until Vintage Days at Mid Ohio!

Newest color idea...VW color black magic pearl and then this winter, powder coat the frame something bright!

Its hardly a shame its painted, I'm not a dealer or looking to make money on it. I bought it to use on my bike  ::) The cost to have it rechromed, I could have just bought a mint condition one. Did I really take your idea if mines was done over the winter and you had the idea the other night? hahaha
