Topic: Drag racing and a million dollar Hardley

Sunday saw us at the final championship round of the season with the CR750, at Santa Pod Raceway in the UK.
The bike ran well last time out and we was hopeing a similar time would take the class record.
Its first run was a tenth of a second outside it,but the next run took the record by just two hundredths of a second.

Around midday a large transporter turned up and out of it was wheeled the best looking Hardley drag bike I have ever seen.
After about an hour of preping it it was ready to run.
The bike looked a million dollars, when it fired up it sounded a million dollars, it left the line like a million dollars for 20 yards then

Sure did, but although I now joke about it I did feel sorry for the guy, I would much sooner have seen a low severn pass down the strip.

With reference to the HD jibes, it's just a bit of light hearted fun that's been going on on this forum for some time.
I don't think anyone disslikes them but I could be wrong, you buy what you like, then ride what you bought.

if it was a belt drive runnin 7 secs in the 1/4 mile it needed to break.  In the 1/8 at 7 it might survive.
but I like seein idiots through money at somethin that dont work or they cant drive.

I've raced a few Harleys on the street which is where the real money is but at the track they rarely put us in the same class. I'm not anti Harley or anti anything I'm just pro motorcycles. This bike is the result of having my a$$ handed to me on a plate by a V-Max many years ago. That hasn't happened since.

Paris, I can't make the engine. What is it?

Well, the bike started out as a 1985 Kawasaki ZL900 Eliminator. I bought it brand new in 1985. The engine has since been bored, stroked, ported, polished, re-cammed etc. The trans is overcut and undercut for quick shifting. Bill Brutton from Harvey, Illinois out of Fast Bike Engineering built the frame and the engine mods were done from original designs by Dale Walker from Holeshot performance out of Santa Cruz, California. She runs REAL good but the local police usually ask me to take it home if it's on the road after dark.

What sort of times does it run and where at ?

The best time ever recorded was 8.76 at 161.42 MPH at Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, Wisconsin but it turned consistent 8.90 at National Trails Raceway in Columbus, Ohio. The bike was built to pro street race so it doesn't get to the track much. Like I said before "The real money is on the street". We've made some more mods since this picture was taken so I have no idea what kind of ET's it turns now. We're building a bigger, badder bike now but that's another story.

How do you get away with racing on public roads ?
Impreive times though, must have cost some to turn those sorta times.

We don't always get away with it. LOL. Did I say that I raced on public roads outloud? It will never stand up in court. Actually most of our street races take place in Chicago and the suburbs and other big cities nearby. You would be pretty impressed with what some of these guys build to race on the streets. I've seen doorslammers run in the upper 7's through mufflers. I've seen single races with purses in excess of $10,000.00 cash. If you don't have to worry about passing safety tech inspection you can do alot more cool stuff to an street runner. Keep in mind that just because they race on the street doesn't mean they didn't bring it in on a trailer.

Rumor has it that we'll be going North again later this month. Point security isn't to crazy about having someone with video equipment around but I'll see what I can do about a helmet cam.Pictures aren't usually a problem but my video mode on my digital camera doesn't work well enough to tape in the dark (I've tried). I'll come up with something.

A knucklehead or a panhead are the only Harleys that make me take a second look. Anything from there on just doesn't do it for me. Sorry - a busted Harley on the starting line is just something else for the track sweepers to clean up.
