remind me never to purchase anything from Bata as their priorities are all fvcked up!  anyone marketing sandals to motorcyclists or scooteristas should be made to crash with their own gear on.

Their next product might a soft, baseball cap riding helmet. ;)

 ;D

Heff - this is quite an upgrade from what people usually ride with there.

I backpacked around India for 3 months and most people wear fully open toe flip flops riding a motorcycle, sometimes you would see a dress shoe on a business man (but they usually rode scooters).

In Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, etc,...  toeless shoes are about the least dangerous thing about riding a motorcycle.

I had a bike for 2 weeks in GOA and rode with just the Tevas I had with me for the trip.   ;D ;D ;D

My favorite part of the ad is how the reflective tape on the heel is "Night Vision"

This is a common sight in this part of the world.

In many cities you can hire a motorcycle taxi!

You can't make too much popcorn, but you can definately eat too much popcorn.

Well atleast the "Taxi" guy is protected in the event of a crash!

Besides any company that offers "Gear Shaft" protection can't know much about motorcycles.

I love a man that puts family first.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

Ah, that pic of the kid brought back a flood of memories, before the dreaded safety nazis put the kybosh on having fun. I was telling my two twenty-something year old sons about how my Grandfather used to drive me and my brother and sisters around in the back of his pickup truck, no seats, no seat belts, no airbags, just jump in and hang on! The expressions of horror on their faces was priceless.......

Sure, people got killed that way, but that's life. I watched a "Crash scene investigators" program on TV last night about a woman in a modern Ford Ka ("econo-car") who was involved in a head on car crash with a couple in their old restored Volkswagen Kombi, she had ABS, seat belt pre-tensioners, crumple zones, collapsible steering column and front and side airbags, but was still killed.

The driver of the old Kombi lost most of his right leg, (which pisses him off as he's an avid restorer and collector of classic British motorcycles, which of course have "Kick start only" and "right side gear change") but he and his wife survived, even though that car had no modern "safety" items. I couldn't help but wonder how far we've really progressed since I used to ride around in my Grandad's old Vauxhall................ ::)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

We used to be able to do this in Maine when I was a kid.  You still can on Paper company land, then again you can do just about whatever you want there.

Hey Terry, I am sure the laws may have changed over the last few years but as recently as 15 years ago when I was taking Law Enforcement in College the pick up truck thing was still legal. The only stipulation was all seatbelts had to be used up before you could use the back of the truck. So as long as the 3 seats and belts up front were in use I could throw a half dozen buddies in the back of my dad's S-10. One time I had 8 guys and all of our hockey gear in that little short box. Damn I miss that truck it was a ton of fun!

and make our insurance rates go sky high when they, pretty much willingly, chop a foot off.    :(

wait a second, what's wrong with 4x4s and tuners?  OCC was not bad, if i did a show w/ my dad we'd be fighting a lot more than that!
are you saying you can't wear bike clothing if you're driving your cage that day?

As Bata is a huge company with a majority of sales from 3rd world counties, my guess is that this ad was not designed for North America and I would doubt you could even buy them here.

There is an old sales story about Bata.........
A shoe mfgr send a rep to South Africa years ago and after a few days calls the home office and says please send me a ticket home, no  one here wears shoes.

A Bata sales rep goes over some time later and calls his office a few days later and says please ship all the shoes you can.......NO ONE HERE has ANY shoes ;D

a must lesson for any new salesperson.

Seeing as this thread is all over the place like a madmans #$%*e I'd like to add this. Sandals/helmets/protection

I was getting out of my car last week when I saw a harassed mother with a pram and two children on trikes coming towards me on the footpath. The two year old runs the front wheel of her plastic trike thing off the footpath and into the gutter. The child falls down through the handlebars and her head just arced down to the gutter and goes SMACK!! Lands right on her face.

I'm telling you, that child would have been killed FOR SURE if her mother hadn't had the sense to put a helmet on here AND have the strap done up.

I fell off my bike in gravel at high speeds on concrete at slow speeds and variations of both.... Got black eyes and scrapes and cuts and even broke my handlebars off once...
