People come on here and ask for ideas and and such and get cut down for it. Then those that try to defend the spirit of experimentation that so many here claim to support, get cut down as well. What is even funnier is when the reason given is because the person is so knowledgeable or is above 50 and so automatically knows what they are talking about.
is it that they have tried it all OR is it that they are stuck in their way of thinking?
I do not think it is age actually. There are a number of people that customize and are in their 50s and 60s. There are some that are not even 20 and stuck in a particular rut.
What is really funny is that most of use have never met more than a couple other people on this site yet are so quick to call into question a persons skills. the "racers" are especially bad about this. How many were actual "honda factory" racers? Probably not many. How many here had access to the R&D departments of honda? Probably not too many. How many people in the honda R&D departments are there solely to experiment with a bike and all the possible configurations it could be made into? Probably very few or none. So of course it falls to the average guy to creates what he sees in his mind. Could it be dangerous? Of course. Could it be awesome? Absolutely. So why then all the grief given when someone wants to make serious mods to their bike? Certainly we do not want to see anyone die. Even if it was ed, I would not want to see him die. BUY, even with a stock bike, it is always a possible outcome.
Would I take a cb and turn it into a unicycle? Of course not as that would probably be certain death or at least pain. By all means point out possible safety issues or trouble spots that might be hard or impossible to overcome, but at least be decent and civil about it. Or offer alternate possibilities that might appeal.
When a motorcycle reaches a certain stature, it becomes a candidate for customs. the cb is such a bike. The purists have to accept that. If they cannot bear the thought of a custom cb, then stay off the custom threads.
yes I am somewhat guilty of not always being decent however I rarely start it. Even so that is not an excuse. Every so often, I have to remind myself of this.
So as of this posting, I will resolve to be a decent person even when I disagree with someone. The downside is there will be people that think they can do as they wish. Pity.
