woah...... naming kiss and zep in the same sentence has to be illegal somehwere ;D
if it wasnt for bands like zepplin and black sabbath and deep purple, metal wouldnt have become what we know today...they created that sound..
thats just my humble opinion though, and what the hell do i know?

Don't know if they would be classified as Metal but TOOL kicks ass

- Sepultura ( great cover of Motorheads Orgasmatron)
-Satyricon does a great version of it as well

Sabbath yes, zeppelin no. Not to me. But then I commit all kinds of heresy and do not really think hendriks was that great at guitar. I mean he certainly could not be counted among an influence of mine. Not to say he sucked but I just do not think he deserves all the accolades he gets. I go against a lot of musical grain though it seems. I cant stand most music by rush either. Some is ok but I just cant stand the caterwauling of the singer.

To me, kiss donated more to metal in their early years then zep did. I also feel bands like diamondhead and priest did more too. I guess I just do not subscribe to all the same thinking that the music industry puts out, after all, many of them same people push crap like britney spears.

I just posted this in the shamless thread so I gotta share it here, some of older cats will remember this on.This is how it went:

Change of subject; there's a song, oldie from the 60's the lead singer was Kenny Rogers before he went to devil music(country), a few of the lyrics are the girls/guys in the back ground going " yeah yeah oh yeah" then he sings " I was just checkin' in to see what condition my condition was in". I will say this he was singin' about doing LSD.

Awesome before it was awesome!

Hey Eldar I thought you said that you won't get into this. Why you gotta lie? Go to blabbermouth.net forum to bash bands that are not up to your unattainable standards like most other metal heads.... if you are one.   :-*

Want good vocals and metal?  Try out Threshold (Dead Reckoning), Symphony X, and the latest Lana Lane (red Planet Boulevard), for that matter.
Wife says to add Ronny James Dio, and Sabastian Bach of Skid Row fame, should also to be listened to.

Thats why i like to listen to Sevendust and Dark New Day, they have great vocals and excellent harmonies, good grooves as well. I know its not metal but Alice in Chains had great harmonies as well, sort of eerie sounding.
I am going to have to agree with Eldar on one point, Jimmy Hendrix was an innovator. not a great guitarist.

Black Label Society, Vids a little cheesy but it's got bikes in it.

D.R.I.- One of my All time Favs, though more punk than metal

Pro-Pain - these guys really kick ass,  saw them live loooooong  time ago when they played in Winnipeg at the long defunct Alternative Club opening up for D.R.I.

What did he innovate?

It was his approach to playing his guitar, the theatrics, trying things that no one else had done before, it may seem old hat now but in its day it was way out there.

All these new wave metal bands are just rust on Zep's metal gonads. You have to have metal before you can have rust.

AND I prefer to be called a Gray Haired Old #$%*er rather than Gray Haired Old Fart thank you! Not that I have as much hair as I used to  ;D

I know I'm not the best speller in the world but come on - if youre going to bash the dude at least spell his name right.
No one was even trying what Hendrix was doing even Clapton, who was considered God then, was blown away.
I have a hard time calling Zepplin metal, just like with AC/DC, yea it's loud and it kicks your ass but I just can't call it metal, same with Rush and some other bands like that.
I was a huge Kiss fan in the '70s but again it's that whole hard rock thing, I think they get put in the catagory just because of the theatrics, like Alice Cooper.
That which does not kill you leaves cool scabs which turn into awesome scars.

new rule...

post your favorite metal band WITHOUT dissing another's favorite metal band... oh yea... and UNLESS you are IN another's favorite metal band, you can not tell another member that their band does not play metal.

 :-*

my favorites, in no particular order...

NIN
Type O Negative
Motley Crue
TOOL and/or A Perfect Circle... i'm actually more into the latter

by the way... metal is in the ear of the beholder... ever heard the floored album from Sugar Ray... listen to every song aside from the radio offerings and tell me they're not metal.

this thread pisses me off... i'm going to go listen to some METAL
