Mojave 260 Gas Tank on a CB750 *Pic Request*
« on: March 25, 2009, 11:24:38 AM »
Im thinking of picking up a Mojave 260 gas tank, but I wanted to see some on a CB750 first.  Has anyone used one?  Are they a bit small for the 750s?  Do they fit well on the frames?

Thanks for the info!  I posted in the wanted section for a gas tank as well, so if you have anything, let me know.

Peace.

if you are talking about those replica beinelli tanks that Cosmo sells they don't fit the cb750 frame. They do seem to fit the cb350 however.

this is one of carpy's bikes, I think the tank might be exactly what your looking for
you might ask him about it.

everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

that is not a mojave tank on carpys bike.

a mojave tank is 10.5 inches wide at its widest point.  Something tells me that although the tunnel is fairly wide on those tanks they are not going to be wide enoungh. Also  they are like 3 gallons max, why would you want to decrease fuel capacity?

This is the type of tank I'm talking about.

Dropping a bit on the fuel isnt that big of a deal.  Im more so looking for something to give a clean look instead of the lumpy 77 K tank I have on there now (which has dents like it took a trip through an asteroid field).  I'd like to find a tank for relatively cheap.  I cant afford 400 bucks for a tank.  Looking more around 50-100 hehehe.

eh, close.
you'll have to do some mods to fit that tank, benelli had a high single backbone.

Thanks for the info.  Are there any other tanks that will fit well without much modification?  Im not skeered of making some mods to the mounts, I just want to avoid extensive sheet metal work or frame mods.

Matt, I've got a fiberglass stock-replacement tank I bought off uriah that doesn't fit my gold bike that might work for ya.  See if Varun is interested.  It's on my shelf, come over sometime (and bring my primary chains).

this was mine when i bought it. it did have some "re-working" to get the tank to fit... its definatley not "plug-n-play".

Try looking at a CB500T tank.  Its the overgrown 450 twin. I have set one on a 750 frame and it appears to fit with minor rubber frame bumbers.  The petcock mount is the challenge.

That ebayer also has a yellow tank listed, here's the pic of the underside of the tank from that auction for reference.

I'd be interested in this tank too, but I don't know what kind of gas cap it takes???

Would it only take a Benelli cap and petcock only??

I'd need info on this before buying one of these suckers....

Hey Turbogrimace, I have seen RC750 tanks for under $250!!!

Cheers

Quoted from the link above:
If you would like a mint tank with minimal shelfware please contact me at joe@cosmotor.com ALL the tanks are NOS. All the badges are out of position in some fashion. The glue that holds the badges on the side of the tank has smeared over the years. If your gonna paint it is easer to get the badges off this way. This tank comes in YELLOW OR ORANGE . Let me know what color you want or I will send what ever I put my hands on. This is a NOS unit. There are NO rust or dents. The badges are in place on one side or the other or they both may be slid down. Usually they are out of place. They slid down the side from sittin in the box since Feracchi himself put these in the upper loft back in 1967. The heat loosened the glue and they usually slide down. There are very slight scratches or glue marks on ALL of them. I have new decals to replace this if you want to paint it. You'll have to go to Moto Italia to get the green white and red one but I have the breakin decal for sale if you need it. Here we go... The overall; length at the longest part is 22.50" The width at the seat is 7.25 " the width at the widest portion near the pet cock fills is 10.25" the tank is the length through the tunnel "measured upside down at the innermost point in the top to the seat is 19.75" sitting on the table the highest point just at the cap base is 8.50". I sell these mostly to Ducati buyers. This tank is very similar to some Ducati model. The only mounting point is a hole through the top. It is a welded tube through the tank. This tank is clean and un/used NOS.The inside is perfect and I also have the chrome gas caps and petcocks available for sale that fit this tank.

Cheers.

in my opinion and experience, this tank will not be worth the work it would take too fit it on a cb750. you need to weld a bolt to the top of the frame to secure it and then a support bracket on the back side. Also, the tank has 2 small petcock ports. I had to buy (but never used) 2 Rupp mini-bike petcocks. the fittings are 1/8" npt if i remmeber correctly. when i bought my bike it was plumbed with 2 hardware store brass 90* fittings and lines that came together inot one. It did not have a petcock of any kind.
With the 2 mini-bike petcocks i bought, the one on the right side (as you sit on it) was to close to the valve cover to work.

This tank is simply not woth trying to use unless you want to do a lot of work to make it so.

Having said all that... i have one with petcocks and a cap for sale!! ;D  Cool eyeball paint job in the badge holes!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Other than original intentions, the Benelli tanks are best fitted to 250 and 305 twins (CB72 & CB77) and will also fit with little work on the CB350.  You need to use both petcock mounts to use the last 1/3 tank of fuel. I have two friends with custom fits on their bikes.  Great for show and tell but can't go anywhere without frequent stops. Its like a prostrate problem.
